Picked these up on ebay, they were for sale "without cable" and I happened to have a cable so bought them (as good an excuse as any I say!) Turns out these are the perfect companion for Mr. Ipod being extremely efficient and, thus, eating very little juice from Mr. Ipod's battery. Sound quality is superb for a closed back phone and pretty much what I've been looking for with very good isolation into the bargain. Well worth £55! I only had the HD-25 SP cable to hand to had to perform the "coiled cord" tweak on the R/H side (cheaper than forking out £29.99 for the correct cable) Before the coiled cable tweak I doubled the cord back on itself and heatshrinked it but decided to go "coiled": Nifty double headband which can be adjusted so the headphones are effectively "strapped" onto your head. Ideal for listening whilst potholing, climbing or absailing: Assistant holding them:

always wanted a pair of those puppies for location recording monitors, maybe even some headphone movie viewing.....
One question-do they get "hot" when you wear them for long periods ? That is my main personal bitch with sealed cans after cord microphonics, another sealed can bugaboo

I can imagine they'd be quite cool because they are "supra-aural" ones. I avoided them because I much prefer circum-aural phones, but I have to admit my ears do get very hot in HD-280s after about 45 mins. I bet those HD-25s are almost indestructible as well.
Rick, are you saying that in your experience sealed headphones are more prone to cord microphonics?

The other day I was out in pretty warm surroundings with them on soldering for about 3 hours and I barely knew they were on my head. They give a good seal but it's a comfortable seal and not a wet ear job. Cable microphonics are pretty much non existent.... all in all a very robust, comfortable and serviceable headphone.

Changing the pads to velour makes them more comfy on the ears. I also think that the sound is slightly improved too. I love the HD25-1 for portable use.

That has been my experience with every sealed can I have used unless heavily damped (makes for big, heavy and hot headphones ) or really lightweight minimalist frame sets.If large the sealed chamber makes a really nice echo chamber for cord induced sounds.
To be honest I have not yet found a single sealed headphone I can live with for all things reqiuring sound isolation so am always interested in any threads where someone has direct experience.
Right now I have a very short list of sealed headphones for consideration (presently without ANY sealed cans ;D ) :
Lightweight field recording :
1-Sennheiser HD-25 2-Sennheiser HD-25 SP 3-AKG K-171 Studio (about as attractive as a headphone can get IMO )
and in a full size studio can :
1-AKG K-271 Studio 2-AKG K-240.Owned the original "bitch to drive" 600 ohm version for years and was mostly happy with them 3-Sony V-6/2706-owned the V6,tend to get hot on the ears
Notice zero North american cans made the cut and only one Japanese headphone.Ultrasone may have but I have zero time with them in actual "beat the shit out of it then beat it some more" use and all reviews that say anything from the clueless "audiophile" types so not valid for my needs in adual use home theater/semi-pro recording monitor.
I do like the AKG mini XLR cable plug a lot.Makes replacing damaged cables in the field a snap and if there were to be a standard for a pro headphone connector this would get my vote
too damn many choices is the problem and with only one set of ears directly comparing means real world use as "beaters" which kind of takes the resale value down a bunch so I have to do online research mainly and weigh the source of the content with what I consider realistic, not audiophile terms or fanboyism but realistic, then hopefully make the right one time choice

I have been looking for a pair of these for some time but the prices seem way to high compared with 580/600s. Even tatty ones on Ebay seem to make £100 plus.
I see Thoman do them new for £144 i.e. £97.50, has anyone seen them cheaper please?
