Anyone have any opinions on Chris Rea?
I have,
Chris Rea (1982) LP Water Sign (1983) LP Wired to the Moon (1984) LP On the Beach (1986) LP & CD Dancing with Strangers (1987) CD The Road to Hell (1989) LP Auberge (1991) LP God's Great Banana Skin (1992) CD Espresso Logic (1993) CD La Passione (1996) CD The Road to Hell: Part 2 (1999) CD The Blue Jukebox (2004) CD
I love his voice & think he has recorded some great songs but never made a really classic album. I know some people say "Road to Hell" but there's some filler tracks in there for me.

I owned the road to hell ( didn't everyone ) but lost it years ago. The guys voice is amazing but his music isn't my cup of tea.

Chris is an awesome guitarist but he needs to PAY some people to sit in with him to give the music better "feel". DRUM MACHINES belong in Debbie Gibson recordings!!!

He's recorded two completely different songs called 'Texas' but the one from "Road to Hell" is a complete classic.

No, I haven't got that one Colin. I'll have a look over the next few weeks. That's the great thing about amazon, you can pick up these old albums via their sellers, for just a couple of quid. Buying music is so cheap these days, isn't it? Concerts, not so.

The first time I heard "Road to Hell" was on a Proceed DVD/CD player straight into an old school 600wpc McIntosh amp (with gain controls) thru a set of Nautilus silver signature 800's... The soundstage was like looking into one of those infinity mirrors... Sent chills up my spine when the slide guitar kicked in!!!

You make me wish I had been there. That system still stands as the best I've ever heard! They later changed the amps to a set of Classe monoblocks and the sound went super clinical...no "emotional" vibe. Also heard a pair of 805 silver sig's thru a McIntosh 50th Anniversary MC2000. Very Nice, but not the same "weight" as the other system. That MC2000 would raise the room temp to 90°F!!! The MC275 is another sweet sounding tuber!!! ...especially when bridged and run as monoblocks running 802's B&W's have great synergy with McIntosh tubes IMO Pure Audio Heroin!!!

We need to know the headphone system equivalent. Pure audio heroin lol. I'm working on that now! ;D After I get my CD player mods complete I'm thinking I'm going to be close. I need more amplification to make my 803's sing! I "want" to bi-amp, connecting the new MC402 to my MA6900. Use the amp section of the 6900 to run the uppers and the 402 on the low posts. My buddy can gain match the system... I would hope this combo would inject some dynamiic "punch" into the system actually this headphone thing, including the cost to mod the CD player, would just about cover the cost of the MC402...but then my neighbors would be complaining (...again)

Anyone heard 'Set Me Free' from Auberge? That's another fave Rea tune for me. Absolutely brilliant! I'll post something sensible on the subject Nigel, although it could be a few days yet.

Hi Nigel, .....My god you mean to tell me you haven't heard Shamrock Diaries.... I second that - Shamrock Diaries is just great! I've got a load or Chris Rea and prefer his stuff from the 80's, but that'sprobably because they were my formative years!! ;D 1979 - Deltics 1985 - Shamrock Diaries 1986 - On the Beach 1988 - New Light Through Old Windows 1991 - Auberge 1992 - God's Great Banana Skin 1993 - Espresso Logic 2004 - The Blue Jukebox The man is a great songwriter and epic guitarist. Seems I have a few holes in the back catalogue to fill though. Who is Benny Santini? Indeed. He's looking like going on tour in 2008 - that would be a show to catch! Good info here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Rea Cheers Jon
