I was recommended allmusic.com in an earlier thread (pogues).
Was a nice site and I looked up a few names the last week, maybe 10 -20 groups?
Today when I clicked "read more" on the Steve Hillage articel I got a plain white page with a very somber text saying that they monitored my time on their url, via my ip-adress, and that it indicates that I'm using their site for proffessional gain. Their suggestion is I sign up to be able to use the site.
My response is "They must be a part of the musical industry..." and "hey!! no one monitor me without saying so!!" and I really didn't like the suggestion that I had an almost crimminal intent.
If Allmusic.com is supposed to promote the musical industry it just shoot itself in the foot. And they confirm my view that it's a greedy industry.
I saw the companies that advertice there and they are also the kind I'm having trouble with. Like I-tunes, I got Quick-time installed on my computer and keep getting "uppdate now" messages that include installing I-tunes in small writing in a very small checked box. Very dodgy way to sell something I think and I refuse anything connected to that company.
Anyway, I refuse sites and companies with that kind of ethics and I spread the word hoping others will see it my way and choose the good ones.
A good one I read a lot is www.hellridemusic.com
I read the forum, 60's and 70's thread. lot of recomendations on CD's there, even read some threads where artists from old bands answered , so plenty of "new" info there.
Allthough it's a commersial site they have a free forum that stimulates the interest in what they sell, and that is the way it should work in my opinion.
