www.bbc.co.uk/music/sevenages/BBC2 tonight at 9.00pm Tonight's episode features Bowie, Floyd, Genesis & Roxy etc. Art rock of the seventies. Afterwards turn over to BBC4 & watch two Bowie documentaries from the seventies. Ziggy Stardust film of concert & then Cracked Actor. I think I've seen these before but will be watching because I'm big on Bowie at the moment. Especially, Hunky Dory / Ziggy / Alladin Sane. I think it must have been all those brilliant Life On Mars programmes. Is Bowie still making records? I lost touch after "Let's Dance." Fond memories of seeing him in concert on that tour (1983?) Milton Keynes.

Good programme man just finished watching it Glad they included Roxy Music, one helluva good band indeed, loved the Floyd earls court gig it brought back memories..... was the second Floyd concert I ever saw (animals tour being the first) and the last concert I went to with my Dad who died not too long after. great to see Genesis too I'm off to stick Foxtrot and Nursery Cryme on right now Loved Bowie back in the day but went totally off him when he formed Tin Machine.... I still love his older stuff though, hopefully he will tour the UK again some time

Have watched the two programmes in this BBC series so far. The first episode centred around Hendrix and got me listening to Axis Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland for the first time for ages. Both great albums on headphones.
Last nights episode centred around Pink Floyd and Art Rock. Have to say I'm not learning much from this series as it is a bit superficial. Although I suppose you can't go in too much depth in 1 hour which looks at several bands. Not sure about the statement last night about Pink Floyd being the British Velvet Underground. OK both bands pioneered light shows but I'm not sure there is much comparison musically. I greatly enjoy both bands output but to me they provide very different musical experiences.
Also as a fan of Krautrock I am little dissapointed at the series exclusive concentration on UK and US acts.

I was at one of those Floyd Earls Court gigs, Mike. 1980? I still have the programme. Yup the 1980 jobs (hell's teeth that was 27 years ago!!) did you come down from Liverpool specially for the concert Nigel? I was lucky living in London so basically on me doorstep Not my favourite venue but two of the best concerts I ever saw in my life were the wall at earls court and the 1994 tour at earls court (the 1994 division bell tour being even more of a pyrotechnic orgy than the wall ) My dad got me into Floyd and I remember first seeing them at Wembley Empire Pool in 1977 (the animals tour) bloody fantastic and the band were soooooo tight IIRC the set consisted of the entire animals / wish you were here albums and a few old ones for the encore (careful with that axe eugene being one of them) Snowy white was with them back them and what a guitarist he was!! Saw snowy again at the MEN arena "in the flesh" concert and his guitar playing is as good as ever. Fantastic seeing Roger return to the UK after all those years and I thing EVERYONE in the audience was crying tears of joy when he came on the stage..... awesome!

They generally are and it's most annoying with all these people yapping away over the music I wish they would just let the bloody music play and keep these yapping bores well out of it. I, for one, lived through that era when listening to music and painting a picture in your own head was what it was all about... we didn't need it "explained" to us we just listened and let our imaginations run riot.... I can't stand these people who dissect everything and try to tell us what the music means or run a fckin' video alongside the music like a kind of "aid" for those with no imagination. One thing was blatantly clear after watching last night's episode though...... every band that was on that program were so individual / unique and pioneering..... look at them and then look at the pap being churned out these days.....

Yes, I came down from Liverpool. Well, if you wanted to see the Floyd, that was my one & only time, you had to be prepared to travel. Funnily enough, Pink Floyd played my home town of Southport during the Syd Barrett years.
I can remember travelling down to Earls Court (vast venue or what?) in my friends older brothers Austin 1100. It was something like a C reg, 1963? we used to take chances in those days to see our favourite bands. Good times never to be repeated.

Punk Rock is tonights feature. It seems ages since I heard any punk, I used to like a little bit of new wave back in the day so I'll turn in & reminisce.
