As far as I know there was only one WHITE act ever signed by Motown Records (Detroit was/is the Motor City hence Mo-Town ) during the glory years of the sixties and seventies and that was Rare Earth.which being an R&B label is no surprise.Yeah white folks had a bit more "soul" back then because
A-they cared a whole lot more about injustice
B-they were so ripped they went with what they felt without thinking about the consequences or who was pissed off
But these cats sounded black and this was no forced act to be cool.an all time fave that I don't hear too much about anymore but well worth addition to any collection of good music if you have any "soul".
the true test of "soul" is
A-do you sit in a chair and listen to the Temtations or do you feel a need to move around and touch something or someone as soon as the first note strikes
B-does a tight horn section send you to another address (off planet ?) or is it the "Guitar Hero" hogging the spotlight that gets you weak in the knees.not that the rickmonster don't like great licks on the fret board,he do,but there is something about a "Group" where the name of the band holds sway over a single "member" of a "group" who thinks it is all about him
