Real close to introducing my version of the passive "preamp" which is a more universal version of my own Control Master that required several revisions to get it right and the price down to a more reasonable neighborhood,
As it stands now looking at 4 inputs plus full tape loop with both a record mute and monitor/input selector followed by passive isolation and polarity inversion (line transformer) ,passive dual mono volume controls,a processing loop with full bypass and 3 switched output selection-all single ended RCA with an option for balanced inputs (raises the cost/price considerably so scrapped as a stock option).
The actual layout is console style with all controls except for the ground lift switch top panel mounted but the shelf space footprint is a smallish 12x8x2 (inches) so should fit most systems.
There is a plan for an add-on solid walnut "drop in" cabinet with a hinged front panel-also solid walnut, to allow access to the front panel "Input 4" TRS jack (allows punching in a portable source without having to get to the rear of the chassis) and a "monitor output" which is in parallel with the main outputs, again to allow access to the buss without having to get to the back jack panel.something I find extremely useful in everyday use
All in all I beleive my layout to offer the best in real system everyday use without comprimising any part of the signal path since everything is individually mutable/bypassable other than the actual volume control and isolation transformer and something I would buy if I did not make it myself.
The actual operational part of the design is and has been done for a while so all I have left to deal with is a few cosmetic issues, more personal cost than "how will it look" with just the knobs alone running close to $50 for the set !
Target price will be in the $625-$650 area which seems maybe a bit high but right inline with the average passive audio control offering and will be on the retainer/deposit custom build method of sales with final ordering details to be announced here in about two weeks along with full pics to get the drool factor going so this is more of a "save your pennies kiddies" type announcement than it is a "for sale" or "want to buy" thing.
I pln to sell a boatload of these then retire to a desert island somewhere chasing monkeys for the rest of my days if everything goes well and to make sure the weeks follwing will have a matching Line Driver/Current Pump/Heaphone Driver and SE Triode gain stage for modular total system integration.take what you need and leave the rest 'cause it aint gonna be cheap !
