Turns out man, one of the best guitarists I've heard and the joint was jumpin big time... totally took me by surprise, the guy was up and down the neck of that guitar like he was power wanking... totally awesome mate! Drummer was electric too with a 15 minute long drum solo (with his sweat spraying off the skins) at one point the guitarist and bassist joined in with drumsticks, again one of the best drum solos I've witnessed. Turns out Johnny Fatts has been on the go since the 60's and is a legend up in these parts, no wonder, their rendition of Hendrix's "hey joe" was mind blowing and their own work such as "smoke up de ganja" got the joint really jumping big time. A six hour long session too and six hours of electrifying music it was, at one point I was dancing it was that good so don't think this was some sheep shagger with a washtub bass..... ooooh no! Smoke up de Ganja!! Going to see him again this saturday night at his lighthouse (yeh, a disused lighthouse) and as Johnny says " We have Graham Walker who recorded Still Got the Blues with Garry Moore coming on Saturday and we hope to have Dick Levens over from Orkney and Neil 'Macbeat' Campbell from Skye. Donnie 'Howlin Gael' Williamson is also playing with myself and Isaac. Dick and Macbeat are not yet confirmed but Graham and Donnie are certain. If you are interested in coming PM me. Smoke Up de Ganje was written by me in 1978 and you won't find the lyrics on Google."A real happening music scene up here man and "intimate" which is the way I like it Mike.

The best live guitar work I have ever in my life heard was local bar bands some of which are WAY better than those with recording contracts but the luck of the draw decides who is a star and who works a nine to fiver weekdays then plays for barely enough to pay for the gear on weekends. We had a bar here back twenty five or so years ago that was THE place to be and if you wanted to hook up with a "pretty" was also the place to be. A damn CANDY STORE ! All flavors and from fast food to full entre's. Well we had a couple of temendous bands that played there that were every bit as good as anything we would go to a concert to hear or buy on disc and when they played it was standing room only the "sorry ,full capacity, can't let you in........." Those of us on the mailing list would know WAY in advance who was playing and so how early to get there before before being caught out, plus the cards were also a gate discount + a drink or two free-only the "special ones" got the cards anyway (I always ramble off topic ) we had one band make it and the consensus at the time was "they chose the wrong frikkin' BAND DAMMIT !" but make it out they did all the way to MTV when you had to do or be something special to get your video played. The Band ? Twisted Sister-a one hit/album wonder that never did go anywhere but still it was cool seeing a band you got drunk or high with on TV.Well ol' Dee Snider wandered his ass back to the area where he did a weekend gig on the local Classic Rock FM Radio station called "House of Hair" for a bit,an 80's metal two hour set, then wandered off again into the "hair down to my ass" sunset strip. www.twistedsister.com/my local "driving to anywhere" station- www.i95rock.com/general/home.php

Just getting ready for my lighthouse gig tonight man To be held in the Dunnet head lighthouse featuring some of Scotland's most far out musicians... and, by the way, Dunnet Head is the most northerly point in the UK (not John O' Groats) so I'll be rocking in the most northerly venue in the UK that's possible without going into the sea. Weather is great for it too, storm force winds and the sea as rough as hell, hope the damned lighthouse doesn't fall over the cliff into the sea wish me luck! here is the venue: www.nlb.org.uk/ourlights/history/dunnethead.htm
