Hi Leo I havn't tried the ALW's yet, been meanig too, just never got around to them. been using audiocom's, 5v for the dac's etc
experiment time maybe! If theres a difference between low impedance and ultra low impedance caps? Audable difference that is.

Another bonus with the VBE replacing the LM3*7 pre reg in the ALW, low ESR caps do not cause stability problems. Those PFM flea's work nicely for a dacs 5v supply too, I have one supplying a Tent XO and another for the dacs 5v They are not as compact as Audiocoms though Heres a cdp I was playing about with, a flea'd Tent XO, Audiocom reg on the right fixed to the black heatsink and VBE's normal regs on the bottom supplying the dacs +/-5 and -15v Burson regs for the output section

Leo I've been trying to get some those PFM flea's pcb's for a while now.
VBE pre reg, ? might worth a try. Whats the noise out of the pre reg like compared to the LM's?

Pagan,
Yes I'm also waiting for the next batch of Flea pcbs, hopefully they should be available soon.
The VBE is just a cap multiplier or common name gyrator built using either Darlington or Sziklai pair, these are much better than the LM3*7 used in the pre regulation at filtering out higher frequencies . You need the bigger t0220 transistors rather than the small to-92 packages so higher loads are suitale, problem is they are less gain so we build the darlington or sziklai to make up for it
The Flea also uses a gyrator on the input, it works well in that so made sense to try similar in the ALW

Leo A gyrator can work very well as long as you avoid bloody Audiophile type capacitors. I hate waiting weeks to see how good a circuit will eventually sound ! Alex

I think the Jaycar amp is pretty much covering this Leo
