The first part of the "Trend" in electronics seems to be cram more and more into a smaller and smaller space which means able to be carried anywhere which means battery or AC power a must and internal heat generation must be kept to a minimum plus the batteries need to last a very long time between charges in the home "dock" which will be THE gateway that interfaces to the entire rest of the home AV system.
Feature ladenenergy efficient and small size means forget all thoughts of class-A or even class-AB analog audio.Way too inneficient, runs too hot by far and this will not work in a battery operated micro package so expect class-D to take over within two years if not by choice then by force when all non energy efficient goods are outlawed because we all know a few selfish audiophiles are killing planet earth-the bastards.
The seccond part of that trend seems to be wireless.Wireless inside the home room to room and even "in room" connections, wireless outside to the yard, wireless outside the home with connections to both your own home intranet and the general world ogf the internet with wireless uploads and downloads of anything that can be digitised and made into a packet. This means full bandwidth transfers are out and compression of some sort a must or the bandwidth limitations will kill the transfer system as popularity and use increase so ALL media will be compressed which since it is claimed have no audible or visual degradations will become the norm replacing all solid storage mediums at some point.all about the hard drive and the micro hard drive baby !
The third part of the "entertainment triad" is the performance part.Where once we had advertiser supported FREE radio and TV we are headed to subscription service based. At one time television was a broadcast signal easily snatched out of the air and reproduced in the home by even a modest TV with mostly universdally good results.
Yes we had sometimes interference problems, yes there were area called "fringe areas" where reception was almost nil no matter what antenna was used and yes it could be friggin' aggravating but there was always a signal there and all you had to do was find a way to "snatch" it from the air.even when there were problems you could still get a picture even if a degrasded one so it was not a Go-No Go thing but good, not so good, shitty thing. No rain fade,no "the cable is out",no monthly bill, just TV.
Some genius discovered he could snatch the clean signal from the "air",re-broadcast it in a beam directed off a satellite where it could then be "bounced" back down to earth where it could then be picked up by a satellite receiver and dish.this was a boon for those fringe area dwellers or those living in areas surrounded by mountains between them and the broadcast tower (TV is FM,FM does not dip into valleys but rides right on past the peaks).now THEY TOO could sit on the couch and veg out to TV.......for a price that is.
This being a success a new thing began to crop up called cable TV.This was the same principal but with a twisted "I can sucker everyone in,not just the fringe viewer" mindset that took a thing formerly TOTALLY FREE,snatched it right out of the air, bounced it off the satellite to be received by satellite substaions then re-broadcast over a wire directly to the home !!!!
Damn amazing stuff and everyone bought in with the operative word being "bought" as in now paying for a service they always had for free and that mostly worked just fine. The ad campaign combined with a damn lot of penis envy meant if you did not have cable you were somehow lacking as a human and the "TV" commercials at the time shamelessly made fun of those without cabler as if they were some kind of asshole for-
A-not getting on board with progress being some kind of wacked out anti progress old fashioned nut job the object of ridicule even on TV or
B-too poor to afford cable and hence the object of ridicule.Woe to the child from a cableless household if the other kids found out !
So everyone got on board and as the numbers of subscribers rose the signal strength of the broadcast stations went down.Gone were the days of bragging on how much transmitter power a network had (really, bragging rights on power was the norm) because power was/is expensive and with all the "just at the edges" customers going to cable then soon to be followed by one in every other two viewers why bother ? Why maintain this monstrosity for the few who did not yet have cable.were they not either crazy or poor anyway ? Hardly the persons who would be reached by advertisers anyway right ?
So the broadcast power kept decreasing until you could live right down the block from the station and STILL not get a clean signal (the uplink dish on the roof should have beed a giveaway ) which forced the last holdouts to convert to cable.mission accomplished.the FREE now had a cost and that cost had to be payed or you went without.Being poor or being stuborn on principal or being a whack job meant your entire family went without even a simple TV weather forecast.
Same thing with Am and FM radio.Under assault fro subscription service radio.I see all these claims on how FM sucks anyway, how you can't alweays get the stations you want, how there is interference, noise, hiss, bad stereo.etc.,same EXACT opening shot as with cable TV and something that leads me to beleive i will be losing FREE radio in the near future if it follows the same path and I see no reason why it will not
so here we are with no free TV to speak of,free radio on the way out as a viable medium replaced with pay services and compressed music downloads for a buck, where less is more and less FOR more is the norm yet no one seems to think this is anything but cool, just progress,no big deal.
anyone add up all their "service subscriptions" lately ? Their cell phone, their internet connection, their CATV/SATV ? Their regular telephone ? their electrical bill ? water bill ? Heat bill ? Pay Radio bill ? Music downloads bill ?
no one sees a "trend" here but me ? (wait 'til they find a way to convince you the air is unbreathable, that you will DIE if you breathe it then sell you "clean air" in a bottle and you will not be "cool" unless you have bottled air just like those idiots buying bottled water that is straight from the friggin' tap )
The younger audiophiles of today mostly laugh at the "screwy old guys" with their analog rigs thinking them no more than out of touch relics from a hissy noisy audio past unwilling or unable to accept the truth that modern electronics are BETTER and this can be proven by actual documented tests
Audiophiledom was once the domain of a select few who aimed for the very best they could achieve at a price point while the electronic toy geek "gee whiz kids" were more cover of popular science or popular mechanics material so other tech heads could marvel at what these crazy kids have come up with.
These techno geeks are now in charge and because they are have determined the direction of the entire AV industry. No longer will it be about maturing a technology but bringing ou the new while tossing the old to the scrap heap.entire classes of electronics will be made obsolete every couple of years if they have their way and each succeeding generation offering more and more in the bells and whistles department as the overall quality will go down and no one will even notice or care.
Those who today laugh at those like me who use digital but resist the claims that it is the equal of our analog systems which we still cling to and enjoy will at some point in the not too distant future look back on a time when they had systems NOT wireless,NOT Class-D and not more feature bloat than quality with nostalgia.........while that generation looks at them as if they too are crazy,
full circle you pups !
Your time is coming soon and you are not going to like it when your choices are not just limited but eliminated totally if not by popular choice then by imposed law
This is MY "Independance Day" shot.not throw the bums out (like we did you Brits ) butr WAKE THE f**k UP !
I don't care who is idiot enough to buy into the get rich on my back schemes untl the numbers become so high I am FORCED into comlying with the lunacy simply due to there being no other choices.
I LIKE my turnatable and open reel deck.I LIKE my free FM radio that in the home is played back on an ancient MONO TUBE FM tuner.
Dont; FORCE me into your idea of good by taking away my right to choose what I like and choose or there may just be another revolution where the bums get tossed out on their ass ;D
