Hi there,
I have a pair of Superlux HD-681s and a pair of Superlux HD-668Bs.
What should I get these days to replace the HD668Bs? Should I still get another pair of HD668Bs? Are HD668Bs the same thing they were in 2011 when I got these? Should I get AKG 240s?
Some time ago, my Superlux HD-668Bs went dead on the left side after I took to leaving them sitting on the desk overnight for like a week or so (previously I always put them away). I would always set them down backwards, that is, 180 degrees, and I think maybe the cord wasn't designed for that. On the 681 EVOs, the cord on those has a bend in the opposite direction as the cord would bend when I set my headphones down. Was kinda bummed because I didn't use them as much as my 681s. The 681s are still going strong.
I tried to get the side off but I stripped the screw and now can't get them open. I guess I could dremel the screw, but I could also break something. Anyway I'm beginning to look at doing something about them cause lately they've been just sitting in their box unused.
So where does one go from HD 668Bs? Similar price range but not interested past $150.
Sincere thanks for any tips or advice.

Hi: I would recommend you find a used or new pair of Fostex T50RP Mark II Ortho Dynamics. They have a newer Mark III version, however the frequecy response is different. I can tell you how to modify the Mark II's to eliminate the honkiness in the mid range. What you will have is a very high quality phone that will compare with $700- to $800- phones. They are smooth extremely clean & accurate, very easy to listen to.
I am not on the forum very often; will send my email to you in a message.
