Hello all, long time since I've been here. Hope all is well with everyone. Due to the fact that I am now classed as deaf, since an operation to resolve a brain tumor, I have no need for my Chiara headphone amps. One is Chiara with power supply in 19" rack style unit. Other is a Chiara and Hart 1450 RIAA PHONO STAGE with Andante power supply in separate case. Will post pictures soon. The Phono stage does need some attention but can't quite remember what the issue was, only one side working I think. I no longer have a clue what these are worth and would welcome offers if anyone interested. Would also need to consider postage. Had to give up selling these a couple of years ago and kept these for personal use, however hearing now so poor that I may be forced to give up job as well before too long..if anyone is interested would appreciate post or PM Alan, APJAudio

Hi Alan I am very sorry to hear that . I have severe hearing damage due to 44 years with Telstra, yet I have managed to refine headphone amplifiers, preamps etc. that can give items like a $50K Gryphon Preamp a run for the money, and after a few recent minor changes, perhaps equal or even outperform it. I have a 21mm diameter Acoustic Neuroma pressing on my right ear canal, but provided that I look after my BP I can still get pretty good stereo, even decent surround sound from just 2 front speakers with suitable material, even some Soapies !. I use my own Class A headphone amplifier design extensively, yet despite being classed as profoundly deaf by my Neurologist , I have managed to prove a couple of accepted electronic engineering dogmas incorrect. For example, I have been able to prove via 6 Blind listening sessions performed by Martin Colloms, that .wav files with identical check sums can sound different. I have resisted the advice about having the benign Acoustic Neuroma removed, as I would then be completely deaf in my right ear. With good headphone amplifiers, as my Neurologist said, it's the close coupling to the ears that matters. Another member is deaf in one ear, but he hasn't given up on his audio! Kind Regards Alex

I second that Alan. My own hearing is actually very good except for an upper-mid gap in my left ear, caused by scarring on the ear drum from shingles. It's my sense of smell that is very seriously compromised from a nasty bout of flu, I was loosing orfactory tissues from inside of my nose which left permanent damage. Still I'd rather that to any further hearing damage, despite liking my music loud

Thanks guys, I actually really enjoyed listening to my Chiara. I love Jeff Wayne's war of the Worlds and was watching the DVDs one night. I could see the pretty young girl playing harp but couldn't hear it. Put on my headphones through the Chiara and crystal clear. However my hearing has depreciated so much that I can hear an aeroplane miles away but can't hear a conversation inches away. Really annoying when I used to be able to listen to people's conversations thirty feet away, but that's another story.

Incidently Alex, don't be sorry, for you have nothing to be "sorry"for. Be sad or upset, but not sorry.

Hi Alan: I can empathize with you on hearing loss. Had German measles at 7 yrs. The family Dr. let it get out of control & I wound up with two holes in my right ear drum. The result was a 55% loss of hearing in the right ear. Had repeat ear surgery 1 1/2 years ago; the surgeon patched the holes but no restoration of hearing. Even w phones I do not have much of a stereo image but my left ear is spot on.
I wish you all the best & understand how frustrating it must be.

£156 was a bit of a bargain. I highly recommend the K1450, it is a very good phono stage, easily the equal of Naim. I've actually got two of them, one in the Hart audio cases and one in custom casework.
