Anybody give me some advice re- valve life span?
In short iv'e resurected my hifi system from crimson pre/monoblocks and im now going down the headphone route( less for the kids to break!). Ive gone out and bought the Audio Technica AT LP 120 turntable which comes with the AT95E stylus. Ive also got the MF x-can V1 which ive had for, jeez, about 15 years or there abouts!! Also ive just got the Cambridge Audio 551p phono stage and a pair of AMK 550 headphones.
Im loving the old school vinyl thing and was wondering about the valves inside the xcan....
Should these be replaced, given their age or do they "keep" since its not been used for so long?
Ive bought some replacement valves from Mike, the 6N23P but was wondering this...how do I know when the original ones are " out of date" how do I tell?
Any advise out there?
Cheers
Rocky

Cheers Rocky Hi Rocky, Welcome to the forum. The valves don't go "out of date" but they do drift out of spec after prolonged usage and the only way you can check their health status is by testing them with a valve analyser. Just because they glow doesn't mean they go and they could be performing well below par. I'd be more than happy to test your valves for you (free of charge) and that way you would know the exact state of play with them. Have you tried the 6N23P yet? All the best, Mike.

If the new ones sound so much better, I would then order new replacements. If there isn't much difference in the sound, then perhaps you could send them to Mile to test ?
