Hi Mike
Well, that is a kind offer.
I am not sure yet, what I do. I try to sell this x-can v3 first. The X-Can v3 is great, but tubes is not for me. It really really rolls off on the highs and the details. Also postage + VAT really don't make it too much worth it to send it back I think.

I agree with the advice that you should try & hear as many headphone / amp combinations as possible. Don't be too hasty. As you have already suggested though, maybe headphone listening is not for you. I hope you find what your looking for. Incidentally, what kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

Would Lehmann black cube be good enough?? Good enough? More than that. I own the Lehmann, the Heed, the Headfive and the Solo and of the four I still think the Lehmann is the most powerfull AND natural sounding amp. Expensive as it may be - it's worth every penny and drives the K701 with ease.

Please tell me a bit more. The Lehmann, which you got, the USB version or the plain one?
The Lehmann compared to the Heed and the Solo, what really is the difference? I am a bit 'scared' that it might be too sharp and analytical. Tubes are the opposite of that. The X-can v3 would be great if it had integrated PSU(less cable clutter) + better positioning and some more details and bass.
But will the Lehmann be 'too' good, if you understand my point.
Do you use a DAC? What source? interconnects?
AKG K 701 headphones?
Kristian
P.S. I must say, the Lehmann is very expensive.

I compared the four amps side by side through a Tag McLaren DAC 20 which has two analogue outputs. Source was a Pioneer PDR-509, interconnects by Rowen (Swiss high end equipment).
While the Meier amp tended to sound uninvolving I found the Heed lacking some details - as tunefull and fun sounding as it was. The Solo again was a bit too much on the bright side compared directly to the Lehmann - especially strings were sounding too light and a shade metallic. I listened to classical recordings that I know fairly well as I have been along while they were recorded - I know the acoustic of the recording venue, I know the sound of each individual player - and the closest to the original was through the Lehmann. Besides the Lehmann really works fine with all headphones I tried: HD650, K701, DT880, Grado HP-2 and PS-1. And yes, I tend to like more analytical sounding set ups - but I never found the BCL to be cold sounding. For me it just seems to amplify the signal without adding any specific sound signature. For some this may be too honest...

Thanks!
But which of those 4 amps sounded the 'warmest'? Meaning really, which of those SS amps sounded the most tube like? I would prefer warmth, I read reviews saying the BCL is very sweet.

Cannot really comment on tube character... never heard tubes besides in a Fender guitar amp I once owned... Meier amps do have the reputation of sounding relatively 'warm' - nevertheless they do not work well with the K701. The Heed probably is the 'warmest' sounding of the bunch - still I would prefer the Lehmann. I guess in the end it's - again - a matter of personal preferences: Can't you listen to that amp somewhere?

No I can't actually.
The Lehmann is very expensive, that is why I ask so much. The X-can v3 I got is brand new, but I need to sell this in order to get the Lehmann.
But now that X-Can v8 is out.. but it's still 'tubes so.
What is your source on that thing? It is not harsh or analytical in any way?
Thanks for your help!

In my main rig the source for the Lehmann is a Primare CDP (D20). And while it's not harsh in any way to my ears it is a very revealing set up - so you might say it is analytical, but - again for me an my ears - in a quite positive way.

the talisman t-3h www.talisman-audio.com/products/headphone/t3h.htmlsound like exactly the amp u are looking for, it's warm , musical and tube like sound ss amp i agree with mtl , the heed is a warm sounding amp, to my ear , the talisman t-3h sound like the heed on the warm, and musical side, but also very tube like, this is compare with the only tube amp i have, yamamoto ha-2. it also sound more refined compare to the heed, and better soundstage due to it's dual mono design.

Do you have any experience with the Lehmann Audio Black Cube USB? Do you know anything about the DAC?
K

krisno: No and no - I'm afraid. ICs are copper and if you do like your sound to be more on the warm side i wouldn't take silver ICs if I were you.

Krisno I own Heed Canamp+K 701 and I LOVE IT 100%!!!!!!!! I think the better thing for you to to do before wast money...is to hear first (headphone+amp). If you like music you should take your decisions based in YOUR EARS NOT YOUR EYES!!! Usually the best circuits are the simple ones... But never mind! I'm not an expert!!! p.s. don't use copper it's very cheap!!!!
