Half of the words Steve Jobs uttered between 2002 and his demise were "Thin, thin, thin, .....", so now as they say, the chickens are coming home to roost.

I wish you could buy a mobile phone that actually made calls reliably. Never mind cameras, email, calendars, maps and 4 feckin' G. Just let me make a call now and again?

and to be able to hear the other person clearly would be an advantage too.

They're a friggin' joke these modern "smart" phones. I have an iphone 5C with 8GB and can't get the new IOS 8 operating system on it as IOS 8 requires over 5GB to install!
FIVE gigabytes?? what the hell type of operating system is that? Hello..... it's a "phone" not bloody NASA space center.
I can't even get 3G up here in the Highlands so all this talk of "4G" is absolutely irrelevant to me, even if I could get 4G I certainly wouldn't be browsing the WWW on my phone, the damned screen is way too small to spend ages peering at it..... I've got a dedicated home computer with a 30 inch monitor for a reason, I can see the bloody thing!
Do I need to be able to contact my (many thousands) of "facebook" or "twitter" friendson my mobile phone? Do I f**k! In all seriousness, I don't have either a facebook or twitter account and have no desire to get into mainstream "social networking" with a crowd of virtual folk who spend their daily lives tweeting, texting and twittering via smart phone. What a sad life that is but I suppose it makes some of these uninteresting losers feel important if someone "likes" them on farcebook.
I also don't need an "app" to tell me where my nearest pub or cinema is or an app to tell me where I am at any one moment in time on the globe. If I don't know where I am then I am either suffering from amnesia or am SERIOUSLY pissed.... if either were the case then my phone "app" wouldn't be much use any way!
Location services? Just another trendy "app" that you allow to run on your phone which, in turn, allow the powers that be to monitor your every move (should they choose to do so).... talk about spyware on computers? This is like a prisoner being "tagged" BUT, unlike conventional tagging where only a court of law can authorise the tagging, these people are voluntarily tagging themselves. There are either millions of VERY stupid people out there who cannot, yet, see what is developing (ie: a big brother state where the citizen is brainwashed to provide "every" detail of their daily life via their ultra cool smart phone) or I am one of the few stupid people who got this all wrong.
People actually "QUEUE" up to by the latest Smart tags (sorry, smart phones) and the latest generation of people actually believe all this crap about "giving you more freedom to do what you want to do" and how these devices will improve your daily life in a way which is soooooooo cool.
What a load of shit! If they were giving these things away free and telling you the truth then nobody would want one! The fact that they are charging a premium, telling lies and brainwashing people means that everybody and their dog is running (not walking) to their iphone / smart phone vendor to voluntarily (unknowingly) transmit their daily data to the powers that be.
Finger print recognition.... sounds cool? Only if you are a moron! You don't even have to be arrested and charged with a crime these days for your finger prints to be taken. Simply add them to the database by logging in to your phone. What next? Lick your phone to unlock it, DNA recognition?
This is just the beginning of a very nasty, not a place that I want to call planet Earth, faceless and controlled existence with your every move tracked and traced and your every desire and hope pre-determined for you through marketing toward your "trends".

I feel much the same way about Farsebook, Twitter, and those other silly applications. Location tracking could be useful in an emergency, but should be a push button "Emergency" feature tied in with ""000", "911" or whatever your local Emergency phone number is.

I must admit that I am rather, annoyingly for you , satisfied with my phone. I use every feature it has, have my select few apps that I use often and it even makes a decent phone call! The only time I've had a problem it's been with the coverage of the contract provider. How come you may ask? It's not an iPhone!

Apple bashing is popular. I do not understand the bashing appeal. I have a 4s and use it as a metronome, tuner, calendar, opportunity to surf when away from home as well as a communication device with excellent coverage due to my provider - the german Telekom. The most used feature is the integration to my MacMini. All the stuff I need requires no manual to figure out how it works. The backups and media sharing through iTunes simply works. I could give a shit about what processor is inside or if it bends. All of the GearHead stuff does not apply to my use case. I have a dock (i20) from the Pure company that does an excellent job as a high quality portable source.
To be honest, I have the IOS8 update but have not needed any of the new features yet.

The only time I've had a problem it's been with the coverage of the contract provider. How come you may ask? It's not an iPhone! Talking seriously for a moment I do enjoy using a handful of features on my phone. I have used Google Maps' SatNav now and again (although lately it's not finding any Sats.. don't know why), the camera has its uses too. I use the email client, and enjoy the 'normal' facilities like text messaging and the built in name/number directory. The Bluetooth hookup to the car audio system is great. Though I'm convinced that hands-free calling is every bit as dangerous as holding the phone to your ear. The music player is great for holiday on-the-beach listening. My Android phone is the HTC Wildfire S; stuck with Gingerbread (IIRC). Reached the end of my contract recently so now have a SIM only deal for just 7 GBP a month. Derek

Apple are the Antichrist. One tiny example: When they put "voluntary" Location Services into their phones, you had the ability to "turn it off" in settings.
Uhh, no! Any crazed stalker can find you immediately by accessing a hidden file in iOS with a tracker app. Google on PCs or Macs is just as bad - you can set the location you want visible, but they still broadcast your exact location every second of the day, even when Google isn't supposed to be running. Operating systems maintain 'stub' files for that. The last O/S that allowed you to turn everything off that spied on you was Windows 98 or 95, through "real mode DOS".
The exact reason? So the govt. knows where you are? Uhh, no - they don't give a s**t where you are as long as your taxes keep coming in. It's the corporations (Apple is one) who want to know, so they can sell that info to any scumbag who subscribes to their "services".
