Hi i recently won this little amp on ebay and i'm after trying out different op amps on the design. Can anyone recommend a good choice of op amp and where to get them? I don't really know anything about them. Thank you. (see pics)

This link will give you a good idea about whats out there. tangentsoft.net/audio/opamps.htmlNarrow down the field then come back here and ask mike and co for their input. I swapped an AD823 into my CMoy and haven't looked back but if you like bass then steer clear as it's a little lacking. Fantastic detail though. Not as detailed as the solo but still very impressive.

Interesting link. I would disagree though, about the AD8066 sounding a little veiled.

I believe the AD8620 is supposed to run on quite low voltages as well

I believe the AD8620 is supposed to run on quite low voltages as well If I can get someone to put an AD8620 on a Brown Dog adapter and sell me it this will be the next op amp I'd try in my CMoy. I bought a few bits from RS but their shipping for small quantities is way out of proportion to the unit cost. No way will I buy one opamp from them unless I absolutely have to.

I've got a couple of AD8620 on browndogs (soldered them on myself) PM if you're interested

yeah that would be a good idea. Be nice for the people who know what they are talking about to pass on a bit of knowledge to people like me who don't have a clue what they are talking about.

also... I'm not sure if you can tell from just looking, but is the amp i bought above any good for what it is? I mean in terms of parts?? both of those seem to use different parts, the parts in the built board next to those pcbs seem to be the best, they look like panasonic FC decoupling, could be panasonic ECQ or some polypropylene for the input signal coupling caps, alps mini pot, mini rail splitter and standard metal film resistors. As Mike once said in the WTF is it thread these little cmoy based amps make a great little tool for testing op-amps, they also look basically the same as whats used in those Grado amps. I can't really say what op-amp is best as they all sound different and each have their followers. I personally thought the AD8066 sounded quite decent in these little amps, the AD8620 was a little thin in the midrange, I like AD8620 but not in that application

i bought a cmoy from john a few weeks ago. He did mention about providing the boards and a few components since i started this thread. Im definitely looking in to it. I'm still waiting for my third cmoy that i ordered to arrive so i can compare the sound of Johns design against the other two. I'll share my thoughts when it arrives. Cheers for the link!
