Some photos and under the hood internal pics of the HEED Canalot headphone amplifier /amp as well as a few shots of the HEED USB / DAC modules, HEED Q-PSU power supply, HEED Obelisk PSU.
If you want a true under the bonnet peek then Rock Grotto is the best place in the world!
Take HEED! These images of naked parts may offend some viewers! If you are offended by images of Jamicon capacitors, NE5534 opamps, power supplies and other general electronic components then please look away now!
The box the gear arrived in was HUGE (and heavy) and at first I thought HEED must have used bricks, instead of bubblewrap, to protect the Canalot but no....... they had also included the mighty (HEAVY) Obelisk PX power supply.
Anyhoo, I digress, more photos of the "obelisk" in due course.!
First off there's the box itself. A nice sturdy box and made it's way from HEED's Hungarian HQ to Scotland without so much as a scratch:
A cool label that had my name and address on it but I've scribbled over the address just in case somebody may be tempted to steal the Canalot from me
Oooh! three boxes inside the main box:
The first of the three boxes I cracked open was the HEED Canalot 3:
Inside the Canalot 3 box was another little box which had the X-PSU inside it (I'm getting confused already!!)
Box two contained the HEED Q-PSU:
Box Three contained the Mama Honker HEED Obelisk PX power supply unit:
Let me say, from the start, that NONE of these items are photogenic..... they make it very hard to get a decent shot of them thanks to the mirror finish on the front panels..... you are basically taking a photo of a mirror and the end result (unless you are a professional photographer) will probably end up with your FACE (behind a camera) 0n the front panel of the HEED gear The HEED Canamp had the exact same front panel and I disliked it then as much as dislike it now.... a fingerprint and instant dust magnet.... looks great for about three seconds (after you spend 5 minutes removing the cling film crap) but the moment it becomes exposed to the elements it attracts dust like flies to a steaming hot shite
Not a biggie, as this is the "unboxing" part of the photo shoot but it's really hard to take a good photo of a friggin' mirror! Note to self..... mention this later on in the review as it is very salient and the protective "peel back" film is a bastard to remove.......
The mirror image is not a problem when the gear is in situ.... you can see the three HEED units integrating quite nicely with other head amp type components.... I stacked a few of my head amps in the HEED's general direction to show that the mirror finish doesn't stick out..... it's only when you point a camera at it that you lose the will to live :
The three of them together: (You can see what a BEAST of a PSU the Obelisk PX is!)
The HEED Canalot has TWO headphone jacks so may be handy for male / Female shared listening sessions or male / male - Female /Female sessions (or whatever takes your fancy!).
A few additional shots of the HEED Canalot to close the unboxing ceremony:
I popped the hood on the HEED Canalot today to see what's under the bonnet. I also popped the hood on the X-PSU, Q-PSU and Obelisk PSU so you can all get an idea of what's inside the "box".

ctimmins: Hi- Just purchased a Musical Fidelity X-Can V3 without the power supply. I have a toroidal transformer with 12-0-12 vsecondary windings and hope to build a power supply. Could anybody tell me the 3 din pin connections that would need to be connected
