I have been listening to the Green Solo while settling in, with a pair of DR150's and a pair of HD600's. The DR150's do rock and pop better and the HD600's are great for Jazz and acoustics. What would be good "all-round" cans to pair with the Solo, either open or closed designs, I should consider... Cheers, Dennis

Maybe have a think about the ATH-A900, around $US210 on ebay direct from Japan. On spec they are virtually the same as the W1000 which I like (although not on a Solo as I don't have one - yet). Graham seemed quite taken with them. If any one else tries them I would be interested to hear.

DR150 vs ATH-A900... Two completely different kind of cans. My DR150's have had some 200 hrs. by now and they have improved quite a lot, fresh from the box they sounded a bit shrill, stiff, cold and lacking bass. Sound-stage is OK but nowhere near the HD600. Now they have opened up, they are highly revealing, upfront, but can cause some fatigue at times. Comfort is pretty good, price is a joke.. ATH-A900, have had 3 Cd's now... They have a more weighty overall sound and are more relaxed to listen to. I love the bass it has authority but is not boomy or muddy, mids and trebles reveal the details nicely without getting shrill or cold. Sound-stage is good for closed cans, I'd say pretty accurate. Comfort I find very good. I can understand why these are one of Graham's favorites. Cheers, Dennis

Thank you Dennis for your impression of the AT No, do not thank him. Now I would like to listen to an AT which means: Spend more money.

The ATH-A900's are approaching the 100 Hrs. mark. They amaze me with every listen, never thought they would be this good. I have a pair of HD600's on loan from a friend and the DR-150's. The ATH-A900 are the most musical and fun to me. Sure the HD600's have more air and a bit more sound-stage but lack the impact of the A900's, bass is better on the AT's, midrange is sweet, highs are there but extension is less than on the Senn's. Today I have been listening to Mighty Sam McClain, "Joy and Pain" and some Joe Sample tracks. Cheers, Dennis
