Hi , I needed a 2TB HDD to stick in my laptop and couldn't wait for the release in the UK of the Seagate/Samsung M9T which could be pre-ordered for £150 0n Amazon , so I bagged myself a Seagate 2 TB Backup Plus Portable for £100 on eBay. I slipped a finger nail in the join between top and base and ran it around the case which enabled me to gently open it up. A small screwdriver used as a lever at the end away from the connector saw the drive fall out of the base and then I was able to peel off the foil that covered the drive. With that removed the adapter containing the connector for the USB cable was easily pulled off and I had myself a 2 TB M9T that dropped straight into my laptop. Also, because I was careful, I had a case that clicked back together very nicely and a USB 3 cable so that my old 1 TB drive can be used as an external. So anyone needing a bigger HDD for their laptop could find the answer here but do note that unless you are very careful to preserve the case and foil protection on the drive ( not difficult to do ) then you may void your 2 year warranty.

Alex30 Don't forget to try it running off battery power when ripping/playing CDs, and also unplug the connection to the modem when ripping CDs . Depending on the quality of the DAC etc. these little things will all add up, just as replacing long internal generic SATA leads with shorter and more direct SATA 3 6Gbs cables which have 2 screened cables inside instead of 7 wires side by side also gives a minor improvement.

Hi Alex, Thanks, I'm on to all that . As you say everything adds up and it is important to look after the seemingly little things. That's why I always wear a willy warmer in winter!

I once cracked up my GP when I said sprinkle it with pepper, and grab it with the tweezers when it sneezes. Regards Alex P.S. Is anybody else having problems with this recent change to " Quote" ?
