phones used = er6i
i fired it up this morning while playing my gamecube on my monitor. i had the gcn (gamecube) hooked up to an avermedia 1500 mce tv tuner. sound and video hooked up, that is. the sound card i used was the chaintech av-710 with the envy 24 chip in it. i used the regular line out (i read there is a better out to hook my amp to... but i forgot what it was). anyway... this amp is amazing IMO. compared to my 627 based meta 42 hooked directly to the gcn the chaintech pa2v2 combo was just amazing. the mids were more detailed. the highs were were clean but... just... i guess softened a little.i could hear them instead of feel them. i no longer got that dentist drill sensation when listening to high pitched noises. the lows are MUCH fuller. MUCH MUCH fuller. the bass is just about perfect now. i'm not sure where people get the idea that this amp is muddy. it could be that they were using it with darker titled phones.
just listening to music on cd from my pc via the chaintech card... everything was much better than before. fuller, richer, more detailed in the mids and bass...
i think for ety and grado's this amp is just AMAZING... specially for the money.
i'll have to let the thing burn in, still. and i want to see what it will sound like with the cross feed and high quality cables.
i am VERY happy with this amp. it's perfect.
if you have grado's or ety's you really should try it.

as far as i'm concerned he can just keep it. the amp itself probably only cost $40 more than the repairs would have. i think this thing is better for the grado's and ety's from the ground up. this is the sound i've been wanting for a long time. i had a bit of it with the ultrasones... but they had a dryness to them... and they were sloppy too.... i guess i shouldn't compare them too much since the sources weren't the same. this setup... i think it will be very warm and rich when it burns in. it's probably low distortion considering how simple it is.

yes. he even set the gain just right! man... it is nice to FINALLY hear the lower end. i mean... it's really REALLY nice now! i'm hearing all sorts of textures and such that would have been unnoticable on the meta

man... this is really.... the highs can be crisp but not painful at the same time!
if you don't have this amp and do have some grado or ety... try it out!

are the highs on the govibe really better or just more accented? is there more detail?

High end is only something deaf / old people buy. You're in your prime man so everything is high end.... don't question it, enjoy it

i think i may have discovered some of the weakness in the highs... there are noises that used to be easier to hear... very high pitched ones... now they're not so easy to hear... maybe the old amp was overly biased towards the highs???
this amp seems to reveal poor quality recordings well.

it's weird... cus some of the other highs are so crisp... maybe the amp is low distortion but dark?

i keep forgetting that i'm using the crap cable that comes with it... i need to get the rca to mini adapters and my cross feed built... soon as i move... definately by the end of next week... then i can start burning all that shit in... then i can give a proper review a few weeks down the road!
i wonder if that cable is taking away those little top end details....

trying the double flanges instead of the tri flanges...
now i have some of the highs back, more comfort (although less isolation) and the bass seems to hit tighter and lower.

yeah... i've already got the black clovers from fitz. i just need the mini to rca adaptors for it... the only problem is i have to use my straightwire mini to rca if i want to hook it to my pc AND use my crossfeed.... it's still better than the stock cable.
