Hi Will,
Hope you're well, me old. Thanks for the links - I will drop them in my webradio folder. I wish I was flying. I've spent hours on this now and can see my NAS in Windows, but I just can't get Volumio to see it. Streaming from a USB stick defeats the object. I've got a new Edimax dongle which seems to work well, and I have learned to use Putty. Trouble is that there is no set easy way to mount the NAS. I can use the pi as an airplay device for my iTunes, but I would like to use the NAS while my PC is switched off.
I've got a lot on at the moment, so this will probably be put to one side for a few weeks now. It's a tantalising little project - one worth persevering with, for sure.

2014 is here to get major parts of my stereo "good looking". 2013 got a lot of projects started, I still have a 6 channel tube amplifier power supply "open" with 520V, 380V and 250V DC just waiting for cats paws or a dogs tail...... I need to get it closed up so that my wife can "dust it" without fear of death by electrocution. I also have a new phono preamp on the drawing board as well as a buffer stage for the preamp. Then there will be some experimentation with cables.
At the same time, I am experimenting with speaker positioning to see if there is an even better place. If there is any time left this year, my daughter wants some special speakers.......

Just a little update on my last:
I cam across Run Audio - Volumio and Rune are offshoots of RaspyFi. The original coders have written Rune. I can see my NAS no problem. Wifi integration is not there yet in Rune (but is with Volumio). Between them, I'd be getting somewhere. So much promise in this project... and end to my CDP collection??

Looks intriguing. Have you tried out Logitech Media Server? Logitech stopped making the hardware for it, but the server software, and a lot of software clients, live on. I have the squeezelite client running on my raspbian RPi. My system's been rock solid for years. (bound to break now though). forums.slimdevices.com/

Thanks - I'll have a gander at that. Arch Linx is, er, a little confusing for me.

2014, though half gone already I have only just seen this thread!! shame on me......
Projects for this year.
Finish the kitchen (nearly there) Install the down stairs Loo (I have walls but not much else) Remove 5 coniferous trees, about 80' tall and blocking all the sunlight out. And when I get time, copy all my vinyl to HDD. Finish copying all my CD's to HDD. and maybe listen to some music at some point!
Would love to get the soldering iron out, but with 2 boys under 4 I never get the time!

In 2009 (!) I started to build a bass extension speaker / cabinet for a bass-playing friend. Surprising really he's still a friend as it's not finished. He had an 18”Celestion driver hanging around and he asked if I could build him something. Enthusiastically I agreed. Built the cabinet, bought handles, sockets, reflex port and so on. Assembled it and tested it using some synth bass and it sounded good. Considering the design was sort of suck it and see it worked very well; the cab dimensions had to match his existing bass combo for aesthetic reasons so all I had to play with was the port dimensions. Then all that was left to do was buy some sort of carpet-type covering, glue it on, fit castors and hand it over. Still haven't ordered the covering material :-( He emailed me at Christmas asking, very politely, if I had finished the project... So this is No 1 on my list. P.S. Haven't found a source for a protection grill for the 18" Driver. Yours ashamedly, Derek I did buy the carpet covering and I've completed the back and two sides. So that's 1/2 done then, and it's now August. Derek
