Hi Paddy Looking at the photo, suggests that he has put 3 zeroes too many in the price. Regards Alex

Hi Alex long time no see (bloody hamradio taking up my spare time) The price he is asking for is outrageous, he must be on drugs to come out with crap like that, ffs 2 tubes, 1 fixed resistor and one pot and ask for a that amount of money, the case must be made of solid platinum So if you design a amp with 90% less components you can add 3 zeros to the price, bet it is even less of a bargain to you Alex as it is not solid state Paddy

I could have passed the full ham licence , including morse code if I had wanted to. I learned morse code in the P.O. years earlier. I even won a 27MHZ club contest between Sydney North side Radio, and Launceston Tasmania (LT) club members for contacts between Sydney and Launceston. That was with an antenna in a spare bedroom. I also had a 3 way contact between Perth W.A. and the USA when in the car on a punt crossing a river north of Sydney. Quite a few contacts on 476MHZ between Sydney and Wollongong too from an antenna on the balcony outside the bathroom. They were interesting days. Kind Regards Alex

Hi Paddy Good luck with the full licence. Just remember though, that sometimes SWMBO resents the time you spend on such activities. They don't always tell you though until it causes a huge argument. Kind Regards Alex

I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe he was still working in Drachma. It still works out to approx. $200 upwards so he's still way off.......maybe Vietnamese Dong?

"73" is a lot more acceptable than the old CB radio greeting of "Cheers and beers, and look out for the queers."

"73" is a lot more acceptable than the old CB radio greeting of "Cheers and beers, and look out for the queers." Hi Alex You cant use cb terminology on ham radio or you get verbal abuse off the older hams, i dont anyway 73 comes from cw abreviation like the Q codes, cw is better in noisy conditions as my hearing is not the best (tinnitus) I have a go at some of the data modes as well as they can decode signals -20db where as ssb and cw would not have a chance Had a few ssb qso,s with a few vk stations over in oz, the most famous one is Ian vk3mo in melbourne nsw He has 4x 5 element monoband yagi beams for 14mhz, stacked in phase on a 200 feet rotating tower (imagine the gain on that) You sometimes hear him 11oclock at night uk time beaming over the south pole paddy

Hi Paddy Yes, I am well aware of that. Even though I haven't played around in that area for quite some time., I still remember 73 and some of the "Q" codes, such as QRM, QTH, QSY. A couple of my friends are VK2, but are mainly active on 2M etc. One has even played around with a bit of "moon bounce " I think I would prefer CW to narrow bandwidth on an old Kenwood TS520 (?) for example. Kind Regards Alex
