This came about by chance.... I was working on my WNA MKlll and decided to give it a spin with the Grado SR-225.... Wow! The best I have heard them and by quite some margin too. At last! I've found an amp that the Grados love and will be renaming this WNA to the Gradomeister forthwith I recall a few people commenting on how top class the WNA was with the Grado, now I know what they meant. That slightly shrill / glassy presentation has been replaced by a beautifully organic, lively and warmer signature. The opamps I'm running in the WNA at the moment are the OPA 602, I've replaced all the 100uF caps with ELNA Cerafine 63V types.... must try it with the Sennheisers too. A real class act with Grados....... the MKlll Gradomeister: If you're reading Rick,, I take back all I said.............. seriously.

All kidding aside Mike that verifies my point that amp/headphone synergy is everything. Not on paper specs, not what is popular and not what works in someone elses system or looks pretty but the amp/headphone as a single unit and having said that NO WAY does an amp that sound "right" with Sennheisers do justice to a Grado can and while an amp that sound good with grados is useable with Euro cans it will never sound quite as good as one specifically designed with that headphone in mind because likely it will sound rolled at the top and have flabby bass (will sound like a KOSS PRO 4AAA ) find one that works well with both and you have a situation where both sound OK but neither sounds good.good as in foot tapping... at least in my experience

The MKlll with Grado SR225 is absolutely spot on, in every respect, so much so I'm going to keep the MKlll powered up solely for the Grados. I don't know how I missed this one Rick, seriously, I lived and breathed the WNA for a good while and must have rolled more opamps into her than any man on the planet..... I'm sure I must have listened to the SR-325i through her and the SR-125 and the SR-80 but can't remember them as being anything spectacular and certainly not "keepers" or they'd be here now and not long gone on ebay. I don't know but here and now with a very well burnt in pair of SR-225 and a very dog eared WNA MKlll I find myself really "digging" these 'phones. Others commented on the superb "synergy" with the WNA / Grado but this is the first time I have experienced what they've been saying with my own ears. It's not a stock MKlll, I've fitted a pair of OPA602 and an OPA627 into the rail splitter (and Cerafine throughout) maybe that has something to do with it.... but, then again, no.... people have always commented on how good the WNA was with Grados (be it MKl, MKll or MKlll) I just cannot believe it's taken me this long to get my lazy arse over and actually "plug" a pair of Grados into the WNA You've got a Mkl IIRC Rick? How does it perform with the Grado?

balls ? i walked voluntarily and stayed away for MONTHS while you did everything you could to try and get me to go back yet here i am with the door still open for when of if while you burned your bridge.Options baby, where it is at 'cause it allows flexability and choice while anything imposed is a bolted door with no key and being impenatrable you can't even kick it in and say "Honey,I'mmmm Home ! you miss me ?"

Today I use a AD847, next time I will test AD845, LT1006, LT1056 and LT1363 From whom you get them? I search a good and non expensive source of purchase for ELNA

FrizS I got a response from David about a month ago. Good to hear he's still alive Pity he doesn't run up a few MKlll boards and punt them out, they're lovely sounding amps, he 's retired though and in the process of writing a book so probably no intentions of ever selling his kits again.... shame.

I consider - the most of the MKIII modifications can be do with a MKII PCB. Not so long ago I made a draft and a parts list for me, but did not implement this.

Ok, you twisted my arm I've had a quick look at the threads on Head-Fi and can't seem to find a parts list, have you come across it on your travels Miguel? Looks like they've thrown everything but the kitchen sink into this one.... Rick would love it Proof of the pudding is in the eating though.... yeh, I'll be happy to build one up on here Miguel. Thanks.

We ignore Linear Technology www.linear.com/ Now I use two LT1056 in place of the both AD847 There are very little differences .... Treble (cymbals) are a little bit softer, silkier, darker, more natural Micro Dynamics - more than AD847 - more in background too. From the first tick I hear - I am snoopy why after a burning in time And all this with an "old design" 5.5 MHz, 14V/us OP - silmilar to the OPA602 Next I will test LT1022 if I get some samples ;D Speed are not essential Gain Bandwidth / Slew Rate LT1056 5.5MHz 14V/us LT1022 8.5MHz 23V/us OPA602 6.5MHz 35V/us AD847 50 MHz 300V/us AD845 16 MHz 100V/us AD843 34 MHz 250V/us LM6171 100MHz 3600V/us ELNA Cerafine 63V - From whom you get them? I search a good and non expensive source of purchase for ELNA here in Europe!
