I Quote from the data sheet:
"The LT1085 family of three-terminal regulators are easy to use and have all the protection features that are expected in high performance voltage regulators. They are short circuit protected, have safe area protection as well as thermal shutdown to turn off the regulator should the temperature exceed about 165°C."
Operating Junction Temperature Range “C” Grades Control Section .............................. 0°C to 125°C Power Transistor ............................ 0°C to 150°C “M” Grades Control Section .......................... –55°C to 150°C Power Transistor ........................ –55°C to 200°C
You'll be nowhere near those maximum temperatures xerxes, specially with those big sinks dissipating the heat.... if you've got a temperature probe you'll probably find you're running around the 80°C - 100°C mark.... perfectly good.

Right, so the thermal cut-out should prevent the whole thing going up in smoke if it does get too hot. Thanks Mike.

I've been having a good listen to the revitalised WNA MkII today. I've tried both 3 x AD843 and 3 x OPA627, definately prefer the OPA627s - I think.
