Hi This my first post on the forum so hello to you all. I have a pair of Sennhieser HD600 headphones which I have used with an unmodified X-Can V2 - just ordered Mikes Panasonic kit. I have had the left-hand capsule fail twice since I have had them and I am unsure why. After the last time, while listening to the TV, I disassembled the capsule to find the fine wire had come adrift and was unable to to resolder it so off to the bin with it perhaps it was a surge or current spike although all I can remember is the sound just ceasing from the LH side. Has any one else had similar problems with these headphones? I was wondering if it was something rong with the amp, I am in the process of modding it with socket, pot and Mikes Panasonic kit, so would this lessen the likelihood of this occuring? Any thoughts, musings or wild speculations would be most welcome. By the way, the cheapest place I have found for parts is Custom Cable in New Malden: www.custom-cable.co.uk/headphone-spares/ A

When you get a new one put the R/H one in the L/H and I would suggest a change of cable just to be safe. It is not a problem I have come across.

Thank you for the reply.
The Cable will be a new HD650 one gained by strategic moan at a dealership.
By the way best to add that the second time the capsule popped they were plugged straight into the tv's headphone out not using the v2.

I don't think I've ever actually heard of a headphone actually being broken by electronic interactions before. Sure some amps CAN drive some headphones to voice-coil melting point, but usually one tends to go extremely deaf before getting anywhere near that point. In your case given that you were driving them straight from the TV, which I assume is a fairly low-power source, and also presumably at a normal volume, the only cause of failure I can think of would be an extremely high DC offset from the TV. As you say that might be caused by a surge, but overall a very odd case indeed.

I have owned 3 HD580 and 2 HD600 and none of them (or any of my other cans) have exhibited the type of failure you described.

Perhaps I am just unlucky with these HD600's. The first capsule might have been dodgy as it was replaced by Sennheiser under warranty and I am beginning to think that joethearachnid has got something with high DC offset. I have had loads of other cans some have had quite a hard life and have not failed.
Thanks for all the replies

Had a pair since 2002 or 2003. One of the drivers died due to being driven too loud in about 2005, but they haven't skipped a beat since then.

Does she get hips that way Alex? Don't correct the aspect ratio and might be OK!
