Just had my now ageing Musical Fidelity A3.2cr power amp 'seen to' by John Sampson, the ex-MF guy. Amongst other things he has replaced all caps and up-rated the power supply ones too. Result is a more refined sound; like I had bought a more expensive model. I posted my full feedback at jsaudiorepairs.co.uk/testimonials/He services / upgrades other brands too for what it's worth. Now I've moved into proper retirement I am not planning to change much in my system, which is why I thought a relatively inexpensive amp overhaul was a very sensible move. My simple Squeezebox Touch > 'passive' pre > power amp > Spendor system sounds very nice. Oops, left out my V-DACii. Anyone else use one of these little marvels? Now I've grown used to the sound of the V-DACii I sold my X-DACv3 (which sounded a bit 'grey' and artificial in comparison). Derek

Derek Hi Derek, I am glad to hear that you had a positive result with John at J.S. audio repairs, unlike me. When my XA200 mono amp was not working I e-mailed him several times to see if he could carry out the work to mend my broken amp and upgrade both amps. I am still waiting for a reply In the end I am glad he did not reply as I mended and upgraded the amps myself for approx £100 They now sound awesome. Chris

Sorry to hear that Chris. John went out of his way to do the work when I was passing near where he lives. He drove to where I was staying to collect the amp. And then met me a few days later to hand it back and all done to tie in with my schedule. He could not have done more for me.

I have been meaning for some time to write up the work I did to my Cyrus 1. In summary I changed out the caps (£17) fitted an RK27 (£15), cleaned the switches and fitted some new phono plugs and wire (there is a ribbon cable inside which is prone to failure). £50 later and it sounds brilliant. Last night I finally compared it to a newer 6vs2 (£700 new) and the Cyrus 1 gave it a real run for its money - enough that I will not be swapping them out.
