I think I am losing it... I do seriously think about gettina a Singlepower MPX Slam now. ;D That thing is in a pricerange of USD 1.100+ Does anyone here have any experience with this amp? There is the option of a stepped attenuator. Will I be able to hear the difference to a 'normal' good one. For the price of USD 225 Also 'Black Gate Cathode capacitors' are an option. Worth USD 185? What would a 'texture control' do to me? How much better could this big amp be than a Mapletree Ear+ HD? I know! Very hypothetical that all but.... Stefan

Yup. Dr,Rick says take a chill pill.Listen to a favorite jam on the big rig at 115dB peaks and call me in the morning if you are still alive and not locked up for disturbing the peace works for me anyway when I get tense or my mind too "busy" to focus That "range" can change dramatically for a final product. If uyou notice there IS NO off the shelf actual amps but only a loosely based on a chassis/name/tube amp.you final price could be much more so something to think about. I would normally suggest asking at headfi but knowing that crew you will not get an honest answer considering how strong the pro/con camps are and if history is any judge you will get more below the radar PM discussion than open forum "above board" discussion so my advice would be to ask nothing but read everything. Do a search there, read EVERYTHING and weigh the answers with the fact that both camps have an axe to grind, that there are those who feel singlpower can do no wrong and others who feel they can do no right and that on this amp line it truly is open warfare even though all the battles fought in secret (plus a good amount of the more nasty posts deleted by the moderators of headfi). Not an off the shelf amp you can just walk in and review so you gotta go on faith or take a pass. Just an opinion dude.My own

Ain't gonna fire no big 115db thing up but I pop my cans over my ears and give that remaining brain a li'le shakeup I have read enormous ammounts of stuff abut the Singlepower PPX and MPX. Had a call to Mikhail yesterday evening (my time) as well as some emails back and forth. For all the stuff on head-fi I copy/pasted all the interesting stuff into a Word document and edited it down to the relevant info and that was mostly the tubes used for what kind of sound. Interesting that most owners agree on, let's say soundstage' for a given range of tubes. For the interest of it I gave it a try and posted some questions over at head-fi www4.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=190846Will be interesting to see what the outcome will be on this. From an optical point of view - yeah, the wife thing - the Singlepower PPXs and MPXs are plain ugly. What I like is that I can call Mikhail and say 'I like that sound and this is important to me etc..' What I like though is that with the tube socket adapters that come with the MPX SLAM there is a whole range of tubes to plaz with later on. Ahh! I'll see. I will not make any decissions until the coming monday anyway.

YUP: rockgrotto.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=m&action=display&thread=1160340839Glad that it turned out to be that one. The Dr. was a pleasure to deal with - I got lotsa non standard parts for no extra charge - and I am still more than happy with what I've got. Maybe the parts that I got with mine are the same price or even cheaper than the ones Lloyd uses as standard but the extreme flexibility he showed was amazing. Let alone his patience... ;D Stefan
