1 terrabyte hard drives are pretty cheap these days so howzabout we start up a 1 TB hard drive exchange club just so we can compare the cosmetic appearance of these hard drives If your entire itunes library is on them it doesn't matter, what we are doing here is exchanging USB hard drives with a view to comparing the build quality / cosmetic beauty of the hard drive. As I say, if your entire itunes library is on the hard drive it doesn't matter as we won't be actually plugging the hard drive in..... It would give us all a great opportunity to learn more about USB hard drives, the shapes, the sizes, the colours etc. and, and as I say, it doesn't matter if your entire itunes library is on the drive as we won't be plugging the drives in..... it's a purely "cosmetic appreciation of the hard drive exchange". Unfortunately, the USB hard drive I will be exchanging has about 900GB of stupid lossless Apple files on it but don't let that detract you from sharing your shiny USB drive with me Of course, there's no stopping you.... or me.... from plugging the USB hard drive in, it's a free country Comments welcome.

Er, what so special about all the technical specs? It's only these and nothing else according to some. Nothing Zen to say about them as most will be all about the same technical specs unless we have artworks on the portable HDDs like those pictures from our Signor.

I suugest you should have called this thread "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" :-)
On a serious note, how robust is your typical HD? I know they have to be transported around the world and then get delivered to shops on a truck. We'd have to pack them carefully in case anyone does want to plug a disc in to test data transfer speeds, compatibility with their own computer, or whatever.
I have two identical 1 TB drives; one is the backup. I think I'd be reluctant to risk posting either disc in case of accidental damage.... wonder if there is similar interest in assessing "build quality / cosmetic beauty" of,say, 5 or 10 Gig memory sticks? I have some 24/96 & 24/192 files on some of mine but I could delete them before posting.

Wonderful idea. But i agree that sending smaller portable media around seems to be more robust. There are some lovely 64GB micro SD cards around that are very admirable, esthetic beauties they are. These can be sent in a letter, weighing only a few grams. Knowing each others tastes, we can match exchanges with esthetic like-minded forum members.
I soon might have a spare 32 GB SD card as i'm looking for doubling my phone's memory capacity.

Mike, I'm very interested in the build quality/appearance of memory storage in all it's many forms. I actually have a subscription to " Hard and Flash - your pictorial guide to the sexiest storage around" Have you thought about how it might be organised?

£30 for 64GB seems a hell of a lot to pay when you can get 1 terrabyte for £60 "shipped" www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Samsung-1TB-M3-External-2-5-Portable-Hard-Drive-USB-3-0-Black-/121020040214?pt=UK_Computing_HardDrives_RL&hash=item1c2d5b4416The hard drive would be a "return to base" type thing when you've finished admiring it's beauty so it would, essentially, be a one off payment of £60 (the price of 6 CD's) and let's, for instance, say that each of us sent our drives to three people (and received three drives) that would be three terrabyte of glorious hard drive "each" that we could discuss.... just imagine it, getting to hold and appreciate other people's hard drives.... the only thing I must stress is that you don't plug the USB hard drive into your computer, this is purely for the appreciation of the form and aesthetics of the USB hard drive.

Appreciation of hard drives can bring about many emotions, just like fine art can..... laughter, tears, joy, sorrow, longing, regret, hope, melancholy, sadness etc. etc. etc. The greater the storage capacity the more the emotion I find..... I am glad the mere discussion of hard drives has bought a smile to your face...... BTW, I can fully recommend the Samsung range... sexy little numbers that are pretty much bullet proof, they are also very photogenic so if you want to take high res photos and do a gigantic print out for your wall you won't be disappointed. I love the diamond pattern on the body too, you can caress it with your fingers for hours

I'm in with the 1TB option. I just like looking at them. I'm very keen to look at everybody elses.
Latest Listening - Ministry of Sound - Chillout Session XV. For those Yello fans this is a great selection of electronic fun !!.
