You want me to send over a couple of drones? Cruise missles? Perhaps a small yield statical nuke? Or we have the option of Seal Team 6. We've got what you need......for a price!

Think I will call it a day and go watch Dr. Strangelove. I love the ending. Just in case. Good luck, good life, and thanks. It's been a great ride.

By the way Ian....... I didn't delete the forum. I went under the bonnet for a look and it asked me if I wanted to delete the forum.... I clicked "yes"..... it then asked "are you sure you want to delete the forum?" I clicked "yes"..... it then asked me to enter my password and warned me that deletion would be "final"........ I then clicked "cancel" There was also one of those "captcha" things to fill out..... I couldn't make head nor tails of what it was...... good to know that it's not just a case of pressing a "nuke" button, it requires you to answer a few questions first I don't think you or Alex have the "permissions" to delete the forum, which is probably a good thing, I'm the only loose cannon that can do that So, when I fall off my chair and die, you're safe in the knowledge that this joint will be "undeletable" I gave you both, pretty much, access to ALL the admin controls but kept the "Nuke It" button all to myself.... almost ten years now and I haven't used it, nor have any intentions of using it. When I do die (and that won't be long in happening with my "lifestyle") the joint is yours! You lucky people! You don't know you are born! 500 years from now they will look at "Rock Grotto" as the template for their existence..... that "Mike Grierson" guy will be afforded God like status...... and, "yeah" on the first day the Lord Saideth "they shalt have oats"...... on the second day the Holy Lord of Holy things saideth "They shalt have access to Rock Grotto" and so it came to pass....... BRB...... there's a van outside with people wearing white coats.

Or be lazy and buy some Mad Dog's from Mr. Speakers. Glad I am still here. Had a nightmare that Mike deleted the forum and we all suddenly disappeared, like in a Twilight Zone episode. (for the younger members it was a TV show in the '60's and NOT about vampires.) Guess I will set the Doomsday Clock back a couple of minutes, post my experiences about the headphone meet I went to this weekend, and change my avatar back....maybe. It's growing on me. That was a close one, hope Iran learns something from this about the nuclear option, Ron

For awhile there I had to hide, for it seemed that if I would come out in the open, I would get hit by one of the stray bullets from the "Gunfight at the OK Corral""! As a matter of fact, I do have an update, Ian, and Alex! I just finished the acoustical mods and the recabling of my other pair of cheap headphones, the T50RPs. I have yet to build the filter, designed by 'him, whom should not be mentioned' Thanks for posting the charts, Ian! They speak louder than words, though I am sure the T40s you have, speak even louder! While fully aware that despite the fact that a picture is worth 1000 words, and they are not enough to describe how wonderful these phones are, I am attaching a couple here: Peace! Israel

They look fantastic, Israel. The man himself was teasing me last night!! We were chatting and HE was wearing them while chatting. Then he sent me the results of the T50 to have a look at. T40 is basically the same. How kinky can a Dutch guy get? He was wearing my clothes!!!
It'll be here soon but after seeing the actual measurements he's taken I'm pulling at the leash!!!!
One of the best FR I've seen from anything. The funny thing is how cool he was about it. I was hopping in my chair while he casually mentioned he was wearing them and listening to some jazz!!
I was on the verge of setting off to hover over his house with a searchlight and a megaphone!!!
'Come on out. We know you're in there. Turn off that music at once you scumbag. We gat ya covered!!'
He'd probably reply, 'I can't come out .... I have my finger in ze hole to stop ze water leaking through the dam. I am ze little boy who has saved ze 'Olland from da sea. So you see, I can't pull my finger out!! I am forced to listen to ze jazz music.'

They look fantastic, Israel. They sound fantastic! Before I modded them, I re-tweaked the T40, because, after following the suggestions that came with the physical mod kit, and implementing them to the letter, while the SQ was amazing, there was something that was missing. Compared to my HE-500, which to my ears, filtered are now the flattest I have ever heard, my acoustically modded T40s sounded somewhat thin and a bit shallow. I was missing the former's lush and robust middle, lower and sub-bass frequencies. I then decided to reduce the fill material in the cups by getting rid of the fiberglass fill. It was my opinion that the tightly packed fill in the cup, while meticulously weighed with a 1/100 gram tolerance scale as recommended, was pressing too hard against the back of the drivers, thus restricting their ability to vibrate fully. Lo and behold! That did it! The SQ blossomed out phenomenally, and now they are much closer in SQ to the Filtered HE-500! . I then applied exactly the same technique in modding the T50s, measuring and meticulously weighing everything I put into them, and when finally I tested them, they were not exactly the same! . They were better! Marginally better clarity, transient response, decay, and sound stage, at least to my ears! After comparing with the HE-500, I then found myself listening more to my T50. The former is extremely neutral, the T50 is exciting, and brilliant! I am now wondering what the filter will do. I am confident that it will bring the phones over the top! WOW! Hehehe!!! I had the feeling he is capable of something like that, probably with a 'dead-pan' straight face, without cracking a smile, in addition to his inventive and creative mind! A cool guy! I can't wait till tomorrow, when I get started on populating the Filter PCB that arrived yesterday. That IS funny!

Great. I am glad you got the T40 sorted out Israel. I thought something might have been amiss. Problem is that the mods for these are all over the place so Mister Blank decided to look for the definitive mod that gets it as close to flat as possible.
Within 2.5 and smooth fr is really good. No spikes. It's not just a fill it up with material type job. If it's done properly, you get an amazing headphone.
He's a devil, teasing me like that. He knows how keen I am on them. Should have kept quiet. It's my own fault!
TV arrived. It's massive. Currently having a WWF with it. Hulk Hogan is needed big time!!

Ian, do you know if there will be an updated guide for the mods now that a standard has been reached? As you say, there are dozens of mods out there but I'd rather go with one that I trust. I have built the 20k and 3k add-on filters and they are working well. I also have loads of wool, felt, plastecine and a pair of Val's old knickers to do the physical mods but it's a little confusing looking at all the possible permutations and variables. Since I don't have a lot of time to play around I was hoping for a 80% solution as a point to tweak from.

Ian, do you know if there will be an updated guide for the mods now that a standard has been reached? Yes Dicky, there will be a PDF document published. As I said at the start - it's not as good to just fill it up and not watch exactly what you're doing. The document will contain the information needed regarding what materials works best. How much material and where. The type of felt to use. The best type of loading on the baffle. Then the one that causes a lot of consternation - the filter. However, I repeat - you don't HAVE to use the filter if you feel so strongly about distortion/noise/crosstalk issues. My belief is that the extended FR will compensate way more for any losses which I know are at a minimum. This headphone will outperform many high end headphones as long as the mods are done properly. I have a feeling that some (from my pm's) are getting different results and are disappointed because they haven't done it correctly.

The acoustic mod kit I used for both my Fostex phones is the same one that our nameless friend in the Neverlands used, with a few changes and omissions, such as not using the fiberglass fill included in the kit, omitting the suggested treble reflector, and adding some perforated felt on the business side of the drivers.

I have no problems with the filter - it works a treat. The thing is, it's not fully integrated with the rest of the mods yet so I don't have the complete balanced 'picture'. But I'm very pleased with what has been achieved so far. I wanted to make sure I wasn't one of those dissappointed people - hence holding back.

I would, Dicky. He's finalised the padding part and materials to be used along with how much (I think in weight) and the filter, if you want to use one will work in conjunction with the headphone response. He's tuned it according to what he measured from the stuffing.
In fact, he has been going for a couple of weeks now and reckons he's got the final version to get the graph seen above.
It'll take some time for him to write it but when he does, I'll post a link.
If you're going to do it, it's worth doing properly tbh.
