I have owned these planar magnetic cans for about a year now and thought it time to give my views. Starting with the dislikes first, they are quite heavy and it took me a while to realise they need additional padding beneath the headband. I sent off for a clip on padded sleeve that sorted this problem out and I can now wear them for hours as the weight is distributed better. I also wasn't keen on the pleather pads. Substituting velour pads not only improved comfort but also, helped improve high frequency response. The only other warning I would give is that these headphones improve dramatically with a decent tube amp. The Custom Hifi cables HA10SE that I use was a great choice and a Mullard NOS tube was the icing on the cake. So to likes: Superb, deep but well controlled bass, a tactile mid range and a sibilance free but well extended treble. Early models were described as 'dark' but this has been corrected so ignore those first reviews. I took a gamble on these and ordered them pre-production, saving a little money but at just under $400 they are really worth trying. I have only briefly listened to more expensive models and IMHO the extra is not worth the difference. Highly recommended.

I have yet to try the HE400, currently have the HE500 and love them. I also liked the HE6 and the HE300 (dynamic). Thanks for your impressions.
