The new line up consists of just an 'x' after the name. I saw them in Japan but not here in the UK.
AD700x, ad900x, a900x, ad1000x and ad2000x.
I'm not sure what they've done to them 'cos the Japanese might as well be talking Japanese for all I know but they are apparently improved versions of the old line up.
I like the a900 and use it quite a lot at home. It's not a 'neutral' headphone but very pleasant and extremely comfortable to wear.
I've always felt that the Audio Technica headphones are really very good but all have less bass quantity than I feel is sufficient. A900 is getting there since it's closed. Funnily enough, it's not the bass that I have problems with; it's the quality of the treble!! To put it bluntly, it's not as 'clean' as the K550, but then again, the K550 can be a bit 'hard' in the treble and that's where the a900 can be better on some recordings.
I've always been curious about the W series. Never tried them, but all of the AD's are really good headphones so the new improved 'x' versions may offer a little bit more.
They'll probably start to appear in the UK soon ......

i used to like my ad2000, but had to sit still! the creaking headband done for 'em in the end. hope the X has at least addressed that.

I think that the 'x' version has a bit more warmth in the bass.

I think that the 'x' version has a bit more warmth in the bass. Well if the "w" is wood.... then maybe "x" is the "x"factor?
