Hi All,
I recently saw an amp on an audiogon auction. Granite Audio's headphone amp. Looks beautiful, and runs almost $1,000 US. Does anybody know about these? Any experience with Granite Audio at all? I've heard one or two of their home amps, and they were incredible; wondering if same is true of the headphone amp?
Gracias, russedelic

If it is the model I am thinking of it is an ASL MG Head clone amp done in a faux marble chassis. The original MG Head was dirt cheap, sounded great with HD-600's,used (from memory) a 12AX7 front end to an SE EL-84 output stage and was easily upgradeable. There was a unti to unit inconsistancy that caused the amp to lose popularity even though at that price i always wondered what was expected, especially with cheesy opamp based amps running neck and neck at the same price point and when i built my own version the parts came to as much as the entire amp pre-built from ASL
If this is the amp then $1K seems way overpriced for an amp that went for $400-$500 brand new in the box

Is this it? Rickster is right about this one. It's the standard tube headphone amplfier design with affordability in mind ... few years back. It was sold under various names. HP-Tube MG-Tube etc ... But none of these predecessors had pricing over 600 USD. 1 Grand is a bit too steep for me. Nonetheless, crafting granite may indeed cost a lot. Also, it being very heavy, you have less microphonic problems associated with tubes. ... (but tubes are IHT so it is not much of problem to begin with) Tomo
