Has anyone any experience with the EARMAX ......
I've tried two project units and they both left me cold ....
I'm using Beyer DT 990's and DT911's....variously through an old Nad 3020 and a senhiser Lucas for film duties.

were these "clones" the ones from the Headwize Project Library ?
I have briefly heard both the Earmax and Earmax Pro and have to say they were very tidy amps that had a "civilised" sound which was a pleasing sound to me personally. The actual circuit is no more than a single ended gain stage mated to a white follower output stage,a "proven" design used in damn near every tube based headphone amp not strictly single ended (Se front end,Se cathode follower output)

Oh,
It ain't so bad. It was innovation of the time with so well packed into the sexy chasis. It sounds good, but there were rumors that it behave not so well with low impedance cans. So have another UBER headphone amps for your Gradoes!
I recall EarMax costing about 500 USD (PRO was like 800-1000) few years back with matched tubes. I think if you can get it below that price range WITH THE MATCHED TUBES, you gotta decent deal. A good pair of matched tubes can cost 50-100 USD. So don't be kind to people selling this without tubes. (Well I am a poor bastard. I wish I get paid for this stuff. ... )
What do you all think?
