With the schematic shown in post 23, the 5V relay could be omitted, and the unused make contacts of the 12V relay used to s/c the other PW5 resistor for the +5V supply. The type of relay isn't critical, but I would recommend one with a coil resistance of around 1,000 ohms and DPDT contacts ( 2 change over type) rated at 2Amps. Alex

Hi all Sorry for the late reply. Just formatted my laptop recently this is the power supply the atom based pc that requires a single 12 V dc. I use a 12 V ac transformer and post rectification with load i get about 15v dc. The is fed to the LT 1084 (12v) for the motherboard and one lm 317 (5v)for the hard disk and another one for the cd rom.. There is a pretracking lm317 in the circuit.
I use LT 1084 and 2 are paralleled to get more current . The circuit is based on the Lt 1084 datasheet. I cannot get the Lt 1083 with 8amp capability from the local shop. The rectifier bridge is an industrial 40 A type . I use zener to set the output voltage. I find that the pc will not start if i insert a resistor or a inductor in the +ve rail before the regulator. The reg and the heatsink show very minor increase in temp. the rectifier bridge without heatsink runs about 55 deg to 60 deg C after many hours of listerning.
cheers

2nd try Uploaded with ImageShack.usUploaded with ImageShack.usThe first picture contains 2 regulated supplies for the cd rom and harddisk. There is a LM 338 to reg the 15V input to 10V before forwarding to the Lm317. This is done to decrease the heat on the Lm 317. The 2nd picture show the LT1084 power for the 12V supply for the pc. thanks SandyK kp93300

kp93300 You will need to click on your image so that it is in a small red rectangle, then "Get Code for Forums"and paste it here exactly as it was shown. It will start with Regards Alex
