Yeah just heard about these. They will be released at the beginning of next year (Janurary I think).
Something makes me think that they did their own filter mod to the 681 because of how popular it was here on Rockgrotto. (they mention the mods for the 681 on that site)

Super excited about this. They should get a stand at the Bristol show. If this is with the treble mod it's a killer headphone. Lets hope the price is around 15 quid still.

I'm confused (again!), are the mkII the same as the "Evo"? These are dirt cheap at Thomann

Two sets on order, black for No.1 son and white for me. The black will obviously have a darker sound and the white a cleaner presentation

I'll see if I can get a few sample pairs from Superlux so the members here can review them. They very kindly sent us ten pairs of the HD-661 (pre-release) the last time..... I'll have a word with them.
Mike.

Contact them via carrier pidgeon or hot air balloon. Mike. If that fails, how else can I contact them?

I have three pairs of the originals (two with filters and one without completely stock) and never felt they suck big time...
According to the manufacturer they are pretty much the same phone but with a smoother top end...
I am wondering what is going on and i am also waiting Miguels input...

Maybe they're "too" smooth now Chris? Who knows. let's wait and hear a bit more from Miguel, maybe his 'phones just need more time to bed in before fully blossoming.... it has been known that some 'phones sound shite straight out of the box and require a good few hours thrashing to settle in. Mike.

The HD681 EVO currently has about 60 hours of burn in using an old radio as a source. Half of that time at much higher levels than I listen to and the other half at just higher levels. My biggest complaint is with the bass, there is too much of it and it is both boomy and IMO lacks control/definition. I do believe it has come down a notch from when I first plugged them in but I do not know how much more they will improve in the next 50-100 hours. The mids sound a bit recessed but it could be due to the over abundance of bass, time will tell. In my case the seller sent me the wrong color, so I got a credit and ended up paying a tad under $40 USD including S&H. If they improve then it would be a good deal but for now the Samson SR850 which I got for about $32 USD including S&H sound better all around. More to come in a few days.

On the back of your findings thus far I can safely say my son will LOVE them. I, however, probably won't but then we could have another modding fest

So i gather that the treble is not hot anymore...
How is the soundstage?, is it congested/restricted because of the smoother treble? is it getting overwhelmed by the bass as you already mentioned?
If it just the bass quantity, adding some cotton wool will cure this very easily...

The cans have 250 hours of burn in, way more than I normally would have though they would need to improve … and IMO the improved just a tad. Overall I find the sound dull and lacking clarity/definition. They seem to be more efficient than the Samson SR850 at the same volume setting and the SR850 is more open and with better kids and top end.
I definitely prefer the Samsom SR850 and since they cost less they are an even better deal. I wish I could recommend the HD681 EVO but cannot. Could another XXX hours of burn in help? Perhaps, but I do not it would be worth my time.

The Superlux HD681 headphones are a super good value. They look like my AKG K-240 headphones, and sound as good - maybe better - with slightly more punchy bass. My AudioTechnica ATH-M50 headphones put you right up close to the music - almost too close - while these set you back, just off stage in the fourth row, with a bigger, more spacial sound stage. read this review: headphones.eu5.org/superlux-hd681-headphone-review/
