I still have an old Sony and can hear that whining away. I remember Christian complaining about the shrill top end on the Senny 560ii ov, that I also experienced. Something that a Cardas cable seems to have considerably calmed down.

From what I was told by an engineer there are three common sources of whine on the old Trinitrons.
Two come from coil vibrations, one of those was a lower whine in line with the frequency that you suggest, another was very high which I suspect is the one I'm hearing. (way above tinnitus style)
A third was a sign of the LOPT on the way out. Apparently this should not be audible under normal use conditions (15.625 kHz) unless you have your head inside the TV like Frans!

Here's one we didn't discuss, this is probably for our technical folks. When one is measuring headphones with an SPL, what weighting would be best and what response time? A or C? Response times on my SPL are 35ms, 125 and 250 and 1 sec. I've noticed that the C weighting shows higher dB's than A. I've read A is closer to the way we hear, but that C is the standard (at least in the U.S.) for noise in the workplace. The EU apparently has a different and more up to date standard. Here's to the weekend, Ron
