I hope Xerox is happy with themselves,,,, They have created a monster.
If they didn't sell the screen GUI to apple in the first place, we may not have this problem. ;D

It's well known that I'm not exactly a fan of M$. But compared to what Apple is doing at the moment and where this could end, M$ is refreshingly "open".
An increasing amount of brainwashed Apple groupies is praising their dead leader. His biography is their holy book.
It reminds me strongly of North Korea. Steve Jobs is, of course, the "eternal leader" of Apple. His followers are using the compass and GPS in their iPhones and iPads to orientate themselves five times a day in direction of Cupertino to praise their love to overpriced gadgets.
M$ can't be more stupid than they are at the moment. After their almost eternal WinXP, they've had the Vista disaster and managed (after much struggles) to release Win7, which was at least usable in practice and a worthy successor to the joke called WinXP. And now, they've got nothing better to do than to affront their own user base with the next joke called Win8. While the "Metro" GUI is probably usable on a smartphone or tablet computer, it's an impertinence for any notebook or desktop computer. Touch screens aren't the best input devices for a computer. They are useful for mobile gadgets though.
Meanwhile, Linux is as mature like never before and offers a great alternative. But most don't notice that at all. I don't care about that though as long as I can use Linux.

Apple has always been very protective of their O/S. Used to be there hardware too, except they totally got left behind by the competition between Intel and AMD. With Intel's main worldwide marketing campaign, "Intel Inside" and it's present dominance, Apple has sucked up to Intel. Good marketing on both sides, Size of Intel and the single minded views(money) of Apple. M$ been left behind ;D Well in their future market for mobile devices... WinXP had it's own problems, that weren't resolved until SP2, well more or less. At least it was stable....................... (thinking about that idea ). Win7 is NT6.2 Vista is NT6.1 XP is NT 5.1,. 2 etc Win8 might be Win7 with a different GUI..... IMOPO I think M$ just got the marketing wrong... Being Win8 for tablets etc. Anybody seriously believe M$ designers would use Metro for desktop use. or maybe the kids are in control now M$ don't seem to change too much. Their GUI is the main interface to the operating system, unlike Linux.

In 1987 I took a 4000-line accounting program in Microsoft Basic and brought it up on a Mac with 512k RAM and it ran without a change. That was the extent of my Mac work. But I've had many ipods now, 4 iphones, 2 ipads, 4 Macbook Air's, one Mac desktop, and no failures at all. Not to mention their batteries are the best I've ever had. Unfortunately I don't actually use the Mac computers because there is no suitable backup program anywhere in the world. But Microsoft is utter crap. The biggest problem was when they dumped their Personal Computer O/S (98) in favor of the spy-on-you-to-the-max O/S (XP). Very few people understand that, what is a corporate O/S and a personal O/S, and so you can't blame them for worshipping Apple.

"in favor of the spy-on-you-to-the-max O/S (XP)."
It doesn't get mentioned that much does it. But the hackers have been enjoying the ride for a long time.
But then Apple has it's own. the "i" istore etc Maybe that might be a future marketing campaign..................
" i-spy " " i-know what your doing " " i-sell (your information)"
Google is also getting into the act too...

I use LittleSnitch with my Macs almost as long as I'm using OSX. www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.htmlYou wouldn't believe how much "traffic" this little helper is blocking for me. Adobe products are also a kind of spyware. I've decided to switch to Linux, but I still need to have at least one Mac around for professional reasons. I feel much better with Linux. No need for something like LittleSnitch. A standard Firewall does the job there and this is enough. I remember a time when I only had to protect a Mac from bad influences from the outside (internet), but nowadays, I have to protect "me" and my own Macs from Apple too. The iCloud is another step into a totalitarian OS. Mountain Lion is the next step that will follows. BTW: The "new" MacPro's are a total joke. They didn't make the move to SandyBridge EP although this technique was introduced at the beginning of 2012. They sell still slightly modifiedd MacPro's with the same old technique as used before. What is it with the technological "leadership" here? They've announced new MacPro models for 2013 though. Probably they are hopping directly on the Haswell train. They don't seem to sell much MacPro's then, otherwise they wouldn't have missed SandyBridge EP.

I wonder then what is taking place in that new spaceship campus Apple is building? New technology for us, or something that maybe gives them better control? They have enough money and influence to really affect a lot of people.

They have enough money and influence to really affect a lot of people. They've already announced a co-operation with Facebook. Maybe they are going also for a joint-venture with Scientology or the NSA. Perhaps they are heading for "mind control" or "total information awareness". Scientology sells the "e-meter". Maybe Apple goes for the "i-meter" with an unibody aluminum case and a Retina display. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-meter"Your i-meter is telling you every day how measly you will feel without having the newest products from Apple. If you buy every product we are releasing in the next 50 years, we will eventually disclose the truth about computing to you." ;D Didn't they have something called the "Apple evangelists" in the past?

My cousin in North Hollywood was a big organizer in Scientology, and I lived in one of his Scientology farm houses with several Scientologist worker bees for 6 months when I needed a place to stay. So everything you say here, humorous or not, seems really close to home. Big government is bad enough, but they're just bureaucratic. These Apple guys and their Hollywood cousins are scary.

It was not my intention to insult someone. Although I'm aware that Scientology and their members (not you!) are taking almost any critic as insult. I'm also aware that you live in Los Angeles and that Scientology has their headquarters in Los Angeles and other parts of California. I was certainly very nice from your cousin to help you when you've been in a difficult situation. Although I do not have any sympathy for Scientology (meaning the organisation), I don't have a problem with individual members, with the exception of their leaders that make the big money with that organisation. Scientology has an extremely bad reputation in continental Europe and this with reason. The Germans and the French are investigating Scientology with their secret services and the organisation is under constant surveillance of their secret services. The e-meter is known to be an absolutely useless device (beside being the cash cow for Scientoloty). Even according to an US court decision. Scientology has NOT the status of a church/religion over here in continental Europe. They are a lot of stories around about brainwashed people and severe abuses, for example on the their ship "Freewinds".

My cousin's older brother recovered from his "auditing" sessions after a few years. He had a PhD from Kent State before taking up a professor's job in SoCal. Whatever his brother did to pull him into Dianetics auditing I don't know, but I often compare it to LSD tripping in terms of the danger.

I've viewed a few videos on YouTube about Scientology this evening. It's an interesting topic since an outside observer can hardly understand why someone does join them. But if we see videos like the following one, it's seems clearly to me that the affected persons are normal persons that have just got into it for some reasons. I can't understand it though, but to some extend, it's similar to people that have other personal problems. Anyway, the following video is very interesting to watch: I don't see a reason though to post a video about Tom Cruise going crazy on Oprah's couch. Almost everyone has seen it and it's just too ridiculous. Tom Cruise is IMO a really bad example what can happen after being a member of Scientology. He really looks kind of brainwashed to me. Personally, I do know a person which was with me at the grammar school (called "Gymnasium" here in Switzerland) which is very religious. It's a very nice guy that wouldn't harm anyone (not even a fly, I guess!), but he seems also a bit "brainwashed". At some point, you can't discuss really with him. He's blocking constantly when talking about things that don't match his view about God and the world. BTW: I know a lot of Apple groupies which react extremely upset if you are questioning something related to Apple. I've had Macs since 1992 and I probably do know a lot more about Apple and Macs than they do, but they are always quoting the crap from the official advertisements. Apple products from the last few years are very stylish. Not only the hardware, even the software is. But "style" doesn't mean it's always superior. Apple makes livestyle products and the products are hip. It reminds me sometimes of fans of a football/soccer team. Those "fans" are willing to use violence against the "fans" of the other team(s). I've seen user comments to a Swiss online newspaper article about iOS, Android and Windows Phone. You can't imagine how rude the comments there have been. And you can bet your ass that they had already deleted the most offending comments. I mean no one is forcing someone to buy an iPhone or similar smartphone with Android or Windows Phone, but people can't stop preaching about their "religion" (meaning smartphone OS). We've seen similar "battles" on RG too. Thankfully, it was possibly to calm down this discussion mostly, but the next such discussion will follow for sure. It's a strange world.

BTW: Scientology has found a way to sell their e-meters even in continental Europe. Their reputation is far too bad to sell them with a Scientology brand. But what did they? They've sold these e-meter devices to therapists. Most of them are also into other kinds of more or less (pseudo-)scientifically founded therapies. The therapy which makes use of the e-meter is called "Bioresonanz-Therapie" in Switzerland. There are quite a few followers to that, but the word "Scientology" is never mentioned to them. Even the therapists often do not know what they are doing. It's a way for Scientology to sell more of this overpriced e-meter devices. Known as "bioresonance therapy", it's also quite common in English speaking countries. I guess they sell their e-meters is almost every country in which they have a representation under the "bioresonance" label. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioresonance_therapy

I've been through the "auditing" at Apple's genius bar enough times now that the comparison is right on. The discussion about why itunes won't copy music and videos to the iphone from two different computers (but any number of computers is OK for ipad and ipods) is illuminating, if you can withstand the cranial pressure. I suppose the big step in conditioning their subjects is to instill a paranoia about the opposition and then keep reinforcing it, along with all the "good" that the home product represents.
BTW, I was speaking of Jobs' and Hubbard's boys both. I wish I had a good photo of the gigantic billboard Scientology erected in Hollywood after Hubbard's demise - it had an image of Hubbard that would dwarf anything of Mao in China, but better yet it noted the hundreds or thousands of Hubbard's works followed by "....and more to come".
I've often wondered to myself which would give the best earning performance and overall satisfaction for the price: A PhD from Harvard or Cambridge, election to the college of cardinals, or elevation to OT-8?

And I wouldn't want to offend anyone's belief, but of all the guests on Ted Koppel's Nightline in the 1990's, the two most sociopathic persons I saw there were David Miscavige and Ralph Reed. I don't include Bebe Netanyahu in that category since he is merely under delusions of grandeur.
BTW, the missing wife of the Scientology guy is said to be in a holding cell somewhere. His mother in law committed suicide. These guys really have their problems.

I don't think they have any 'problems' at all. It seems to be all the people around them who are in the Sh1t !!. You can tell Tom Cruise is odd because he thinks, dispite being a midget, he can still play Jack Reacher.

I am far from being a fan of Tom Cruise, but his performance in "Born on the 4th July", was excellent.
If you don't think Tom Cruise can act, watch this movie.
Problem is, he's not really done anything in the same league since, though I thought his part in "War of the Worlds" was nicely down-played and 'un-heroic', a bit like the whole film.

He can probably act but I do think he has a judgment problem. Jack Reacher is 6' 5", 230Lbs etc. Tom Cruise is a midget. I can only assume that he thinks his ego will make up for being totally the wrong size.

I guess that's exactly his problem. Regarding his acting qualites, I can't say very much. At least in "War of the World", I found it was appropriate for the purpose and the film itself was OK. It's based on a book and I guess they've tried to make it close to the book, without highlighting some specific actor too much. There other films, for example like Die Hard 4.0, which are specifically made for a just one actor (in this case Bruce Willis). The Mission Impossible series is also made quite specifically for Tom Cruise, I guess. To be honest, Tom Cruise isn't my favourite actor. Regardless of his connection to Scientology. A lot of other well know actors are also members of Scientology, for example John Travolta and Juliette Lewis. Lisa-Marie Presley is also a well known member of them.
