I had a tenners worth this afternoon... was in for about 2 and a half hours.... here's a short vid of the Solo V2, I can REALLY fling it about in there (best viewed full screen).
I managed to whack the Big Lama and have bent the shaft.... I'm starting to think the spares game is a RACKET.... impossible to get the gear off the shaft as they have thread locked the grub screws, I actually SNAPPED an allan key in half trying to remove one.... I'll be straight on the phone to Kooltoyz tomorrow and am going to go apeshit.... he sold me a 15mm extension shaft which won't fit onto the existing alloy blade clamps so that's as much use as a chocolate fireguard... he suggested I "buy" a set of "Xtreme" alloy blade clamps which will fit the shaft... erm, excuse me, I have already purchased the heli with the alloy blade clamps... I'm now expected to purchase a new set because Kooltoyz were unaware that the extreme shaft was not compatible with them? nooooooo.
Anyhoo.... a vid of the hall which is 700 yards away from me and mostly always free for use:

Plenty of space there, Mike. You rented just for yourself? Nice having your own private hall to fly as you like. That's what I like about getting outside and sending them up in free space. You can take more chances with nothing to hit. I love the 120sr for that. Trouble is with a FP - the hint of a breeze and away she goes. Great in there. I'm surprised about the Lama having the thread locked onto the shaft so you can't do a simple thing like change the shaft or the gear!! That's definitely going to break or bend on crashes. The cogs very often get mangled or the shaft will bend so it's really necessary to be able to get it off. Can you cut it off and get a new shaft and gear cog? I can't imagine why on earth it's stuck there. How daft is that? I took the MSRx out a couple of days ago on a big field and let it go up. The breeze really got to it and it went really high. Looks amazing zipping around high up and since it was such a big space, I managed to get it back fine. Just took my time. I'm thinking of returning to the Honey Bee. I liked the heli. Just a bit wary of it. You've kind of put me off the CP3. It seems a bit fragile and difficult in the air. I think my first bigger one with a single blade needs to be controllable. I must admit after taking out the 120 sr, it's quite tempting. The only thing I suffer from outside is cold feet when it gets some shocking speeds up in the sky and then takes a dive on a turn. The shift extremely fast once you let them and it takes a cool nerve to keep it in the air sometimes.

What they have done on the Big Lama is thread lock everything (with thread locking compound)... they have used WAY too much and torqued everything down too tight... I actually BROKE an allen key attempting to get the gear off.... it's done deliberately in my opinion, another way of extracting more money out of you. I was there with Pete today, he had just fitted his Wankera LM180D out with new blades after last weeks crash (£60 worth of tail, blades and canopy).... he was doing fine (for about 5 minutes) when, all of a sudden...... WHACK! into a wall He's taken out the skids, the battery mount, all of the blades, part of the tail.... we are talking £80 this week.... I must scrub my LM180D thread, it's a HORRENDOUSLY fragile piece of shite... it's like flying a piece of fukkin' cake icing.... so much as look at it the wrong way and it shatters into small pieces. It's all starting to annoy me Ian (again).... the Big Lama "is" big but it's like flying an unresponsive fat walrus... I'm frightened to fly my wankerea LM180D in case I do another fifty quids worth of damage... it's a friggin' RACKET!! The big helicopters and me don't mix... do you know, I can fly the Solo V2 pro about at full throttle and control it so well I can take it within an inch of a wall... I can even land it on my head now... before I got this good I crashed it MANY times and you know what??? It's running the same set of blades and the same canopy!!! You just fire her back up into the air after a strike... these big coaxials are a liability. The Honey Bee? My CP3 will be on it's way to YOU shortly... I have had ENOUGH with it and will either smash the fekk out of it with a hammer or send it to you (I'm serious)... it's never a good day to fly it, it is stressing me out SO much... I've spent more time fitting new bits to it than I have attempting to fly it.... it was a bad purchase (run before you can walk) and I'm not throwing any more money at it.... I hate the bloody thing. I am also getting rid of the Wankera LM180D.... I'm going to do a vid at the flying club where I pour petrol all over it, get the rotors up to speed... chuck a fag on it... get it burning, lift off and crash into a wall at speed (seriously).... a right waste of money and I'm not chucking any more in it's (or more correctly, "Walkeras") direction..... There comes a time with everything where you have to say "enough is enough".... Christ, if I was wrapping my car around a tree every time I drove it I would give up driving (you just couldn't afford the repair bills for starters).... I'm firing pieces of fragile plastic up into the air, crashing and then paying for replacement pieces of UBER expensive plastic.... it's CRAZY!! Spring / Summer are on the way.... I'm not getting any younger.... I want to spend this year's warm season getting out and about, relaxing, sniffing the roses, enjoying a bit of female company etc.... I don't intend spending my spare time on the phone to "Kooltoyz".... My house is jam packed with headphones, headphone amps, CD players, gadgets, helicopters, wallwarts, cables etc. etc. it's driving me INSANE... I've got EVERYTHING I don't need but nothing I want... the one thing in life I want I can't get (though this morning saw a turning point, in my favour, in my 14 month chase )..... Shit man, I just want all of this junk out of my house (out of sight out of mind).... it's like living in an ongoing fekkin' helicopter repair nightmare..... nah, since getting my wheels back again, I want to get out and about.... I'll keep the Solo V2's (I have 4 of them now)... the rest of them I'll either fly into an oncoming truck or punt out on ebay..... I'm playing with helicopters and buying stuff I don't need because I've lost direction.... my daily "hit" is unwrapping parcels... that's pretty sad.... I now have the freedom to escape from that (wheels) and go do the things I used to enjoy doing (mostly FREE) like sniffing the roses, walking about the hills, seeking out pussy, going for a drive in the wilderness, going away for a few days "at random" staying in B&B's.... just, generally, doing something that doesn't involve battery chargers, wallwarts, USB, Wi-Fi "connectivity" etc. I was at my happiest when I had nothing... it is SO true, the more you have the less you appreciate.... the biggest buzz EVER in this life is being in love, you just cannot buy that... it's the most magical feeling (and can also be the worst).... nothing can come close.... it's another "freebie". Sorry, rambling here..... Ian, the Honey Bee V2 would be the best for you... the CP3 is a bit of a handful BUT you will be able to control it after mastering the V2... it's the next step up. I think that the Big Lama "pro" upgrade was not done by ESKY themselves... the Honey BEE doesn't have all that threadlock squirted all over the bolts... I think the ESKY big lama "pro" alloy upgrade has been done AFTER it's come out of the factory..... I'll get to the bottom of it tomorrow.... I'm starting to think that all of this third party "alloy" stuff is actually detrimental to performance anyway.... more on that in another thread. I'm off to sniff the duvet

;D
Jumping too quick, Mike. That's what causes those biggies. I fly like a pansy with new ones.
I'm tending to wear them out rather than prang them. I'm replacing parts that have worn off!!
The hardest that I have is the MCPx. All I do is hover. I know that I'll prang it if I do much more. Occasionally, I walk round the room with it.
My original MSRx has had worn blade grip problems so had to replace them. Now it flies like new again.
Sky Taxi rumbles on.
120 sr had a crash and so I replaced the body. I've also had to replace the tail rotor twice.
CX3 had to have a new body. I think either the hoover got it or my daughter!! Came home and there was a crack in the body.
CX3 that I rebuilt is great. Looks like the Big Lama actually.
MCX's are all going.
Old MSR is still going - new swash though. It got worn out. Lost its balls!!! ;D
I couldn't get on with the Bravo sx - piece if shite.
So, not too bad. I feel more confident about the Honey Bee now. Especially after the Blade 450. They need a lot of space though because they can move so quickly.
It's a shame - I thought you'd really get on with the Big Lama and get a lot of fun from it.
I must admit, the little zippy ones are great 'cos you can fly them anywhere. I just find they're too small outside.

It's the best coaxial BIG fun you can have (with your pants on).... I'll feel better about it in the morning.... just licking my wounds.... can't believe I SMASHED it into a wall after such a display.... it was a TOTAL lack of concentration, I was thinking about the 14 month chase and "near" hit this morning..... Sam had a go of it last week and quite simply said "best coax I have flown"..... I agreed (until today)..... smashing the arse out of them into a wall is going to change your opinion (even though the crash was MY fault)..... I "was" pushing it to the limits (wish I had it on camera) so only ME to blame All will seem better in the light of day

I think I must veer more to Ians flying philosophy.
My first, the Falcon, I got to know first and then started to get more adventurous. I still crashed the wot-nots out of it though! It mostly bounced back, had lots of make shift repairs until the motors and gears finally wore out. At that point I treated it to a rebuild, it really had earned it.
So far, with the V911, I have not crashed but then I'm not pushing it either, just enjoying the extra capabilities until I have it down pat.

Exactly, Chris. I treat them like a learning path now or else it's big bucks on poxy plastic. I go through a whole process with new ones.
Little jumps off the floor in a second
Low hover and take off patterns.
Hover and turn patterns. (drift)
Straight forward and stop.
Forward, turn 90 then another 90 and back to land.
Same again but no following it behind.
Circles.
Figure eights.
Go mad ........
Pedantic, but you end up flying it rather than it flying you!!
I'm amazed that my Taxi is still going strong. It's had some wobbly moments, but I've been lucky with it. I know it's time will come and then I think Big Lama for me. I'll dump the Taxi and not bother to repair it.
I may go back to Honey Bee. The first one scared me a bit when it did a fandango in the sky. I got it down though!!!! Then I sent it back.

Chris, treat yourself to an "inexpensive" bird like a Nine Eagles solo pro V2.... major "upgrade" as far as speed and fun are concerned I've got four of the bastards, will send you a highly tuned (as new) RTF V2 in exchage for some sausages... fair enough? Let's talk MEAT!

The way to go, for sure... I get the urge to whizz them around the room at full throttle.... stupid bastard, I deserve to crash. Exactly, Chris. Let's talk MEAT! The V991 and the V911 are the same bird, just one subtle difference, the V911 is less than half the price this is my V911It's basically a knock-off hybrid of the Solo and Trex100. Thanks for the offer on the solov2 but I'm happy with what I have now. However, sausages are not a problem, I can sort a red cross package for you. I'll see if I can get that white one you liked last time again (as you're not into black meat )

;D What can you do for a pork chop? A flying pig or a Pig Lama? Nah, Mike, you're definitely not stooopid!!! It's that enthusiasm that you have. For Christ's sake, you've taken on a frightening bloody thing to put in the air - the CP3. That would seriously worry me with the speed of the wooden blades. It could take your face off. And there you were, putting it up in a garage!!! You'll lose your knackers, mate. Then when you get it in the air, it is extremely fast as well as unstable. It's a difficult thing to fly. The Lama is just a big floating elephant. I think it's a bit similar to the CX3's that I have. In fact, the one I put together has a body that looks like the blue Lama. I've taken the gyro hold down on them both. They fly smoother that way although turns can swing a bit. They're useless outside though - they fly away in a hint of a breeze. Your CP3 is a long term thing - it'll take a long time to be secure with something like that. In fact, I think the Blade 450 is probably easier. I found it easier than the MCPx which is a mini CP. That thing is so damned twitchy, it's an accident waiting to happen. I can hover it fine, but it's lethal to move around and I guess the CP3 is the same but a lot bigger!!!! It's a great pity about the Walkera though. The repair costs are daft. Have you not considered the FP Homey Bee Mike? It behaves a bit better and is cheap to repair.

Did you get anywhere with Kooltoyz, Mike? I bet they have no guarantees or promises. I find these heli shops very poor with customer support. They don't want to know. Same with Horizon Hobby.
I learned that from my DX6i problem. Really poor to have a new transmitter play up and the shop go into denial. Then they put me onto HH who put me back to the shop. No offer of a replacement for faulty goods. Eventually sent it back to shop who sent it to HH for repair. NO REPLACEMENT!!!!
HH repaired it but forgot to tighten one of the switches to the case. Really poor support, so I bet that Kooltoyz wriggle all over the place over the Big Lama.
That locking does surprise me though tbh. It has to be one of the most commonly replaced things after the blades.
You do need one heli that represents a challenge imo. That's the one you're having to learn while you whizz the others around.
That's what keeps it alive for me. I'm juggling with the MCPx but I think the Honey Bee would be better since it's hard to fly the MCPx indoors so I might as well get an outdoor heli and work on it with a training kit.
I was thinking of the Blade SR but it apparently has quite a few flying problems and many good flyers don't recommend it. Pity, 'cos that only leaves the 450. I wouldn't mind a 450 and it is well behaved tbh but I am concerned about crashing something like that.
The MCPx is a good heli, but it's too fast for its own good and it's also too light. I prefer a bit of weight on an outdoor heli. Much easier to control than the little twitchy ones.
Anyway, I hope you got sopmewhere with the Lama repair.

He was actually very good Ian (he's called Allan)... the usual "never had a problem before" type of shpiel but is sending out a new gear free of charge. I made a mistake, it was an optical illusion, the purple alloy on the Big Lam Pro "IS" interchangeable.... I really must invest in one of those magnifyers The parts for the LM180D (Walkera) arrived today and have been fitted.... I had her up for 8 minutes in a perfect hover.... I was quite proud of myself!! Now that I KNOW the cost of repairs I am going to treat it very gently until I am as confident with it as I am with the Solo V2. The Solo V2 is BY FAR the most clever design, and all done mechanically.... this "onboard" stabilization is all very well but NOTHING "flies like a Nine Eagles" and that's a fact... you can stop those V2's within an "inch" of a wall, they are so so so responsive. Sam reckons the next Nine Eagle one to go for is the *** (will publish details as soon as I can remember the model number) basically, it's a BIGGER version of the Solo Pro V2 with the same agility.... I "hated" the V2 when I first got it but, damn, he was right.... it's part of my body now, I can do anything I like with it! Fly through hoops, land it on my head, whizz around at breakneck speeds.... indestructable, responsive, reliable and IMMENSE fun to fly (you wouldn't want to go faster)..... It's hit the "sweet" spot for me. There's now a larger version of the V2..... count me IN! E-flite, Walkera, ESKY are getting more into the "consumables" part of the design process (ie: "how do we make that part weaker?").... Nine Eagles are as solid as a rock and pretty much bulletproof in both design and longevity.... Ian, I still can't believe why you sent me your V2 (sure, it was all over the place when it arrived) a few turns of the servo rods and a sub trim was all it needed.... it's now my NUMBER ONE V2.... I have it so finely tuned that I can fire it over to someone's "head" from 20 metres away (at speed) and actually part their hair with the draught (seriously)... it's a phenomenal design and the way EVERY helicopter should perform IMO. Nine Eagles are not following the pack, they are more into evolution than constant revolution... there's a definite house signature to every Nine Eagles helicopter (apart from the Bravo which is an absolute lemon).... The MRSX (as far as I was concerned) wasn't a "learning curve" it was / is a badly designed helicopter.... it's got a mind of its own.... the only way to go forward is to go backwards, fekk off! that's a crazy tunes gig! Nine Eagles is the ONLY company I haven't supported in the "spares" department and that says it all to me! It's the one "brand" I can bring out and know (with confidence) that when I take it home it will still be in one piece.... Walkera I have renamed to "Wankera".... only a wanker would spend £60 on repair bills to a helicopter every weekend (sorry Pete!).... Fire it "gently" into a wall and you're looking at £60 in new parts? (per few minutes flying session) Fekk that! It's like flying a kendal mint cake.... sneeze in it's general direction and WHAMMO! you've done £60 (minimum) in. Great laugh though... (as long as it's not YOUR LM180D that has just smashed into little pieces). I haven't uploaded a vid of the LM180D "flying" yet.... I can't afford it Knowing my luck I'd fly it straight into the camera and fekk both 'copter and cam..... It's not so much "hard" to fly, it's knowing how weak it is that make you nervous to fly it.... when it's in the air it is certainly "nice" looking, very representative of the real thing, but "essentially" a fragile scale model that is more intended for "show" than "go"..... I'll take a vid tomorrow, hovering..... no more, no less.... I couldn't "do" another crash, it would send me over the edge. Mike.

May as well repeat all that in Russian.... they are entitled to know what is being said....
For our Russian Viewers (who constantly complain that we don't speak Russian)....

THREE hours spent trimming the receiver on the LM180D and possibly three hours well spent.... I limited the servo movement slightly, messed about with the elevation etc. and can now get her into a steady hover without it veering off into the nearest wall.... it's all trial an error and will take HOURS to fine tune her. No way am I going to whack her into a wall again, it's all about VERY small steps with one and treat her like the fragile girl she is.... I'll be hovering this one for months, getting to know the quirks of the flybarless coax.... too expensive to repair and not advisable to learn by your mistakes with this one.... To tame this really will take a lot of reading, hands on, trial and error, blade balancing etc. I am NOT going to crash it again! Don't get me wrong, it's not hard to fly but you kind of stiffen up knowing that if you DO smack it into a wall it's going to be expensive AND a longish wait for the spares to arrive from abroad (no UK stockists).... Pretty daft trying to master an airborne kendal mint cake and preventing it from smashing into smithereens but what part of "man" is sensible?..... Why don't they make these things out of the same material as the "superball"? You didn't ever have to return a superball (back in the 70's).... it just kept bouncing.... they could "at least" make the skids out of superball material so, if you had a heavy landing, it would just bounce back up into the air... why not make the entire helicopter out of super ball grade stuff.... fire it up into the air, drop the power and watch it bounce off the walls... would save on batteries... as soon as it stopped "bouncing", fire it up again.... no damage to the helicopter.... it may take out a few ornaments, TV screens, knock a few spectators out BUT... it will remain intact flight after flight

A nice afternoon at the Village Hall... record temperatures "outside" (sod's law!) but pretty "cool" inside.... only one crash.... Pete "the Walkera man" gently slid his Big Lama into a bench, took a blade out (no probs at all).... as he was bending over to retrieve the Big Lama he dropped the transmitter... FULL THROTTLE!, the Big Lama went APESHIT and self destructed itself under the bench... great fun! I wish I'd had the camcorder running.... he's always good for a laugh Only six of us there today, no wonder.... record March temperature of 24C outside, but better for it...... I think we are all starting to respect our "air space" (or maybe protecting it a bit better!).... ONE crash is pretty damned good going in such a crowded zone. Sam and his boys were there (lovely lads who could teach all of us how to fly), Shaun and his sky Taxi , Pete with his Wankera, Big Lama and mini twister thing... there was actually a LOT of 'copter on show, I was very impressed with the mini twister thing and Sam's latest BIG e-flite coax.... I should have taken notes, I was too busy doing a human codpiece protecting my Wankera LM180D from impact.... I've got some short vids of all the helicopters on show and will upload them over the next couple of days. Most ROBUST of the day goes to the Nine Eagles Solo V2 pro, it will take a full on impact and just say "bring it on!". Most spectacular of the day goes to the Nine Eagles solo pro V2.... quite simply because no other helicopter in there could even remotely match what it can do Most graceful has to be the Walkera.... the sheer anticipation of the "crash" kept the audience on tenterhooks... "will it, won't it".... fortunately, neither Wankera Pete or myself managed to trash out LM180D's.... we have both realised that we are flying expensive icing sugar and have both honed our flying skills to compensate for this The Big Lama with the 15mm extension was a pleasure to fly.... ANOTHER one I didn't want to crash BUT plans are in motion for longer servo arms to get some "serious" forward speed. Sam is a bugger.... he watches, he sees potential and he homes in on it.... I think we both agree that the ESKY helicopters are the best built, the cheapest to run and the easiest to mod (thanks to the wide availability of parts)..... I wouldn't (ever again) touch Walkera with a BARGEPOLE... they are taking the piss with their spare parts price..... Anyhoo, enough typing of the waffling sort.... I'll upload a few "action" vids of today's meet over the next couple of days (shit, why does it take so long to upload a few mins of footage to youtube?) of course, I'll start the proceedings with my warm up (Solo V2, nose cone weighted for forward action) "pre" (other people in the room) flight Damned right..... I am at one with the little V2 now and within my rights to show what it's capable of.... I'll upload the rest of today's "meet" over the next few days. Best viewed in full screen super marionation (Thunderbirds are GO!) 720HD baby! FAB!

Nine Eagles Rock! I hated the V2 at first but now I've got her under control I LOVE her.... For more speed stick 1 gram of butyl rubber in the nose ..... experimenting with a shorter flybar next week.... am experiencing flybar "hits" at extreme speed.... they're not a "problem" , as far as flight is concerned, but you can hear them (a few in the last vid).... I'll detail all of my V2 tips and tweaks soon, as soon as they are finalised.

Fast! Also fun, takes a bit of skill (just a little bit) but MAN... the Nine Eagles Pro V2 has not been shown a clean pair of heels at the heli club (yet)..... of course, with "Pinkie" at the wheel you wouldn't expect anything less Ian..... can you get your arse up here? I wanna race my V2 against your MSRX..... winner takes all More vids of today's "meet" to appear shortly.

You know, Mike, one you'd like is the 120 size Nine Eagles or the 120 sr.
The 120 sr is kind of similar in the way it flies to the V2 although the V2 is more agile 'cos it's smaller but same kind of stabilisation.
At my age, I'd lose sight of something that size in a hall like that!!

Looks like fun , are they expensive? MMMMMM i can see a new hobby blossoming. Another victim, Mruhahahaaaaaa Seriously, they are excellent fun and absorbing at the same time. A great down-time relaxer. "Pink Floyd" and "Rabbit" can advise you on the "Jedi" Blades and Nine Eagles routes. I went to the "Syth" ebay cheapie side! The two I have; AI Falcon XVIII caoxial= very cheap but in hindsight not the best introduction, having many foibles and a nasty remote control. It can be mastered though. WL V911 = single rotor, really nice and I love mine. If you google them you will find mountains of information.
