I think the one you found is a more recent, full on DAC board by different people that I have not read up on. The one I refered to was this Amanero on DIY Audio. It's purely an USB to I2S converter that requires a DAC with I2S input. I have one linked to a "PK DAC" in the diy pages here and another I'm going to partner to a "Curryman" DAC, also on DIY Audio, as an add on USB input for my "SC DAC", again in the diy pages here. These DACS would not appeal to you due to not having the important feature you're after. However, the Amanero can be linked to any DAC with I2S in. After a quick look at the one you mention it does seem to be nicely put together.... Hi CJ, I clicked on your link and read a number of pages and the interest in the DAC at that time (2012) was enormous. I assume most people involved now have working systems and are pleased with the results? Regards, John M.

Hi John,
Yes, there are a lot of very happy punters out there. The board has been used with a myriad of different DACS with great success. Add to the equation that Amanero fully support and are still upgrading firmware to meet wider and higher specifications and you have a real winner.
Obviously USB is not the only route, you can use onboard sounds cards of varying types or full on outboard DACS. Most ways are very open to upgrades to the mainly the power supplies that can make huge leaps in performance over the basic offerings.
As I said before, the new PC had made a huge improvement over the older laptop, plus it also is open to upgrading which is not possible on laptops. Unless you need a laptop I'd cross it out of the equation.

John If you just wish to dip your toes in the water initially , then check out the attached link. It is getting very good reviews, including from some senior C.A. members, and there are also reports that it further improves when using a good external linear PSU. Presently, those in the U.S.A. can get it for only $189 including P&P from Music Direct. Alex ifi-audio.com/portfolio-view/nano-idsd/

I've checked it out and it certainly looks the goods, with every conceivable format being handled. Native DXD should sound phenomenal! I'll write to them for more details.
