After seeing this video I thought the MCX2 vibrating carbon fibre tail boom would be a thing of the past: Sure, it reduced the vibrations ever so slightly but they were still there. I have spent most of the day "on" my bed (a dose of the cold) and thought it a good idea to get to the bottom of this, once and for all! Basically, the problem is caused by too much play in the gears... the bottom gear was "wobbling" instead of spinning smoothly so I thought I'd try reducing the play a bit... it worked! A simple 2 minute fix: Took her for a test flight after adjusting the free play and the MCX2 Carbon Tail Boom is now as steady as a rock (not even the slightest quiver)... gave myself a big pat on the back too! Nice and smooth now: I had a bit more of a look at the Blade MCX2 and the grommet mod is not required... there's an easier "fix" and this is to simply snip the offending top bar out of the battery cradle... you can also supplement with the grommet mod too (if you like) as it is still pretty tight when the battery is inserted: You can see where it rubs with the battery removed... I also show the grommet mods: Sorry if all this is a bit "random" but I feel like crap.... very nasty cold or something so off to bed. The other thing... be sure to push the tail boom RIGHT in as shown: Where to cut out the piece of plastic: Makes no difference, at all, with this piece of plastic snipped out. Anyhoo..... that's the fix and the E-Flite Blade MCX2 now flies as smooth as silk with the Carbon Fibre Tail Boom fitted.

Great. Once you know, it's simples! Do you want me to send a plastic back end for it, Mike or are you going to stick with the boom?

Ian Hi Ian, I will stick with the boom.... you keep the back as a spare for your MCX2... she flies ever so slightly more smoothly with the boom... thank you so much for the kind offer. Mike.

Mike, that was a really good tip. The MCX2 that I fly outside gets pretty hard drives to be honest. It gets buffeted about and I do all kinds of swivels and turns to keep it up.
I had a look at it today because indoors, it was doing a very mild, (extremely slight) toilet bowl effect in hover. Nothing massive but not as stable as the other one which has never flown outside.
I grabbed the top of the pillar by the flybar and noticed a minute amount of play. I would guess, less than a millimetre. Very tiny. So small, that most people wouldn't worry about it, I guess.
I did the tightening of the wheels as you described. I got it tight and the play completely disappeared so that the top set of blades had absolutely no movement up and down.
Result - perfect hover. No sign of the old toilet bowl. The trimming slightly altered but it's now flying with a perfect hover, so that is absolutely worth a check.
It's got me checking the lot now.
