Well i was Ian, but believe me i`m not now, its bugging me because i have tried most of my Amp HP combinations, and the 2nd note that Jeff pointed out is pitch perfect like the first. it must be me not hearing it as it is. Yet i can certainly hear what you and Marc pointed out in the Coldplay recording. . Mick.

Mick, I had listened to it at least 10 or 15 times on various headphones, mainly my modded Grado's, but had not heard it.
Chris had though, as he mentioned a couple of posts ago.
Only listening last night through the DR150's - and I'm not for one minute saying it was them - did it jump out at me. I'd had a few "Magic Cokes" and was really relaxed, not particularly listening hard if you know what I mean, just relaxing into the music. I was listening to a 24/96 version so I immediately put on the standard CD and it was there as well. Believe me, it's there. If you can't hear it count yourself lucky.
Ian was talking about the artist losing control once they have recorded the music, and I believe him, he knows what he is talking about and has experienced it himself. But if that was the case here, wouldn't this have happened to other Kate albums, or on other tracks within this album? From The Dreaming through Red Shoes, Sensual World, Hounds of Love, and of course Aerial, I can honestly say I have listened to these albums 50 or 60 times and Hounds and Aerial probably over a hundred times each. And not once have I heard 'mistakes' like this.
Not once. Ever.
It seems very suspicious to me that the two glaring mistakes are on the same track. It would be interesting to find out who recorded/mixed/engineered/produced/mastered track 2.

I should give the album a second listen but I didn't like it on the first listen... I'll give it a second chance... I thought I was the only one who didn't like it? I love Kate Bush but just can't seem to get into the album no matter how many times I listen.

The first listen is usually listening to get an idea of the album for me. But as interesting as Kate's storytelling might be, musically this album felt like listening to waiting room music.
Don't get me wrong, the groovy waiting room music from the seventies is great but even Steve Reich's "Drumming" sounds musically more interesting to me than this album. After a few days I didn't have the urge to listen to this album again which is usually indication enough.
I will give it a second chance though...

Kate had a stalker at her house. This is the problem when people find out where famous people live.
There was someone on another site trying to get her address and you just never know. That kind of thing is quite worrying.
He's been arrested and I think he's been deported. He's from the USA. What a nutter.

Exactly. Well, as luck would have, she has two places and wasn't in that one.
I think in their minds, because people see artists like Kate Bush quite a lot and read about them, they actually think they know them.
I wonder how he found out that she has one of her places in Devon, even down to the address?

Although I think most people if asked would say, "Yes, I'd love to be famous", this is clearly the downside. It's not even as if she really courts publicity. Any press stuff she does - and that's not much compared to many - is always about the music. No covers of 'Hello!', or falling out of nightclubs at 4a.m. when a paparazzi just happens to be waiting, etc. - and yet she still gets nutters at her house.
Ian, I remember you saying you actually had to move through stuff like this. It must be horrible, and, especially if you have a family, quite frightening.

That's why I get rattled when I see it. I was in trouble with cops for punching one at the door.
I was getting these buggers singing through the letterbox because I don't answer the door. That's exactly why.
My daughter was cowering in bed, crying with these buggers outside the house and enough was enough.
So, I did one o' clock on the cuckoo clock. The door opened, the cuckoo came out and punched the basket.
Then you live in fear of what will be written as a result of your 'inappropriate' (but normal) reaction.
Same here - Care in what you say in case you get bitten in the bum.
It's just not normal so I don't blame her at all for leading her life the way that she does. However, to refer to her in papers as a 'recluse' is also over the top really. Makes her seem like a nutter!!!
In this case, her secretiveness paid off. What could have happened if she was at home there instead of the other one?

you really should have a go at David Sylvian if you are looking for beautiful, mesmerising melodies, which can take you away from this world for a few minutes. He has suberb songcraft and an amazing voice I just got "A Victim of Stars", it is a 31 track compilation of his work, it is quality and a very enjoyable 155 minutes www.contactmusic.com/album-review/david-sylvian-a-victim-of-stars-1982-2012

You remember the song "I want to be Jackie Onassis"? Some people want to be Kate Bush, and through mental fantasy imagine they can get close and somehow 'become' whatever she is. It's an interesting thought, were it possible, but I for one just couldn't stand the idea of those long wispy gowns. Ugh. Stevie Nicks played that part to death in Fleetwood Mac already.

Can't believe it!
Have a listen to (surprise, surprise) Lake Tahoe again.
At 02:40 there appears to be a loud click which sounds a little like a cymbal. You might even think it was a cymbal except there's no cymbal before this point and none after!
And at 03:02 or 03:02.5 there is another definite click.
I never liked vinyl because of Rice Krispies (snap, crackle and pop) and couldn't understand friends who have stuck with it, who say that after a while you don't even hear it anymore on a favourite album. Well the problem for me is that once I hear it and know it's there, I can't unhear it.
Listening to this track now I find I'm just waiting on these clicks and distortions to appear.
Such a shame. Even with all the problems in Track 2 though, I still feel that 50 Words comes close to her masterpiece - Aerial.

Yes, I get that too. It's her track switching in just before she sings, so she did that part at another time. Normally, you don't hear these things because the music isn't quiet enough to allow it through. Listen to it on a V6 and it's like someone has switched the light on next door!! Surprising that it wasn't taken out - lack of care.

Kate was prone to inserting sound effects on some tracks - I think she borrowed a few tidbits from her old pals at the Pink Floyd. I wonder if this has anything to do with that, maybe just old editing habits.

Have you got the album Dale? It has some odd distortions on my copy. If it's on all copies, then there's been some bad work going on and these clicks are another indication. Normally, anything like that is masked by the music, but unfortunately that particular one is at a very quiet moment!! If you're not listening too closely, you'd miss it I guess. I've even heard mouse clicks on one recording. (not one of Kate's) I can't for the life of me remember which one it was, but it was unbelievable - in fact, I thought it was me on the computer because I was on it at the time, but the music was coming from the CD player!!! Or else, my computer has a really good soundstage.

Now how they justify that I don't know. iTunes has a 90-second preview, which I turned up loud and which has good sonics, and within that 90 seconds it sounded clean. So I'll look around but I won't pay their extortion. 5 of the tracks you can buy separately. ?

It's a bit like Marmite, Dale. You'll either love it or hate it. I start to lose interest halfway through so I have to listen bit by bit. I must be ADHD.

I love Kate's latest album. I ddin't quite like Aerial though but may like it on repeat play. Come to think of Kate Bush, how do we classify her music as? It's so unique that we can't say it's pop. Some have put her as progressive rock and so forth. So Ian, since you are the music expert, how would you put her music into?
Thanks.

Laurie Anderson, Kate, Bjork, Joanna Newsom to name a few. I was introduced to Kate by a young fan in Chattanooga in 1988. She was a big step up for me in entering a new world of music I was unaware of previously. The only recordings I have are on a CD titled Live In London 1979, which may be a bootleg although the quality is good. I got a small book titled The Secret Life Of Kate Bush from a record store in Hollywood that's long out of business, and I don't know what happened to that book, but it was very interesting.
