Inspired by the Heli threads, here's the land based one!For a kick off this is something I messed about with in youger years. I am now trying revive two old buggies; Tamiya "Thunder Shot" (full throttle fault) Similar to this and a Tamiya "Shogun FD" (Steering fault) same as this If I have time later I'm going to snuffle the steering solenoid from the Thunder Shot and pop it into the Shogun, hoping for the best

That's the thing Chris, if you're able to repair them, it's great. (Like Mike is with his heli) Otherwise, it's a case of be very careful!!!! What amazes me about those rc cars is how bloody fast they go. Also at that speed, getting the orientation right must be a killer when it's coming towards you. At least with a heli, you can stop, hover, think bike!!! With a car, it's flippin' well moving!!!! Ian

Here are my two beasties; The operation to get at least one good one from the two was longer and more complex than anticipated. I was hoping to end up with the Shogun; but it was not to be. Not many of the parts were interchangeble, e.g. the steering solenoid modules, and their gear boxes, were quite different and I had to strip both down to create one good one, took ages! Then there was quite a bit of corrosion on the main boards, so some cleaning up and a bit of resoldering in places. The remotes also required a good clean up, especially the switches. Once I had got that far it became evident I had a faulty crystal, not sure if it was the sender or receiver but just a plug out and plug in job. So the Thunder Shot won the day purely on which parts could swapped one way but not the other. Vrrrroooooooooooooooooom!Well, not quite, I'll have to wait for tomorrow

These things bring back memories ! I had a schumacher cat when I was 14, it came as a kit and had to be built up, it provided lots of fun I think I've still got it in the loft somewhere . Hope you can fix yours Chris. I was thinking of getting one of those little 1/52 RC cars for the cat to play with , it'll run on carpet ok should be a laugh

I had a Tamiya Sand Scorcher when I was in my late teens. Apparently it's been re released.

Ian,
Back in the day someone? I knew had the Buggy Champ, sister model to yours.
Serious fun! The ones I have aren't up to the wet stuff.
Leo,
One is up and running, the other will need a new steering solenoid and crystal set.
Other Ian!
Yes, they go like the clappers. Back in the UK one of my customers was a club organiser for the really serious racers, not motors, engines! It was like the F1 pits in his store room, different tyre formulations, suspension types, specialist engine parts etc, etc. Mega dosh to keep them tip top and competitive.

The modern Li po batteries will probably give you a bit more oomph and much longer drive time too!

I think it was 30mph real speed (Edit could have been 20) I do know it was seriously quick. On a grippy road you had to be careful you didn't flip it if you wacked the throttle open from a standing start with a freshly charged battery.
Here's a vid of it on a beach Mike.

Mike, They used to run on basic rechargeables, charged up in situ. The batteries are long dead and the power unit was lost in a move. They take 8x AA format in each vehicle and a PP3 in the remote so I just slapped some alkalines in to test it. I have a different charger somwhere, can you use any charger for the Li Po? I'm guessing buying a new psu and charging in the cars is not advisable with the different formula?

They look really good. I never realised that they can go at 30mph. Jeez, you'd have to keep your eye on it.
How long does a set of batteries power them for then?
I had a look at some, and they're not that cheap are they? They look rugged as well though so a bit of fun chasing cats!!
