An error in the software yet hardware related? How old is the Marantz?

There are service manuals for those old marantz machine out there and some knowledgeable people on diyaudio.com that have been messing with that family of CD players for years and have seen most errors. Obvioulsy if you take off the lid and plug it in there maybe exposed mains terminals, I'd insulate those before poking around doing whatever measurements people suggest.
Service manuals should give error codes and expected voltages and detailed circuit diagrams.

You might want to consider ebaying the thing as faulty, sell the remote seperately and put it toward a newer machine. Those old marantzs are bound to be close to needing new lasers or transports and the large pcbs can make some worrying creaking noises when removed from the case.

Have a look through this huge thread www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-source/54009-marantz-cd63-cd67-mods-list.htmlif you have a login for Diyaudio then you can seach just the thread, Just the draw opens/closes? No display or activity else where? I remember some posts referring to similar prob's. There is a service menu the the CD63/67 too.... Allan Ps sorry about redirecting him to another forum
