Hoping my set arrives this coming week! Should be there in a couple of days Miguel. My MAIN worry was the "photo" thing... I haven't been photogenic since the early 80's and false smiling at a "self" shoot is not something I do well If I "really" look like I do in the above pic (did my best not to smile) I'm fit for the knackers yard and NO WONDER my "chic magnet" hasn't been working for years Holy crap man, ageing is not pretty is it?

BTW... Ian.... I think it's time to go down the Dannimac / gabardine (Chums catalogue) route.... www.chums.co.uk/?gclid=CNrMzdvWk6sCFZQOfAod_zNpuQ Comfy slippers, incontinence pants and a good quality (supportive) pair of thigh length socks And a nice pipe. Jesus man, it's getting harder all the time

I quite fancy a Classic Zipper. Maybe it's the sheltered life that I've led? Ian

Today I used the HD661 outdoors: 1. Isolation is fair/decent, not in the HD25/K81/K518/K181 class. 2. Bass sounds too subtle from my European Clip +. 3. Amplification benefits the HD661 but still I find the sub bass lacking in presence. The heavy bass groove of Massive Attack's "Angel" in FLAC had a tendency to sound monotone. 4. The highs can have a slight edge depending on the recording. I did not perceive any brightness though.
The HD661 I received has been through a heavy Solderdude-burn-in-process of about 100 hours. I heard the differences between various tracks/recording given the stereo image is quite convincing. More to come...

Why don't you use the international settings to get more power?

Good question, for the K181 the power output is good enough. I am considering a different DAP or a portable amplifier.
Today I used my K181 again in the outdoors. For me the sub bass is really lacking from the HD661. Even with a bit of amplification the sub bass did not satisfy me. A serious 'review' will follow.

I took the wee beasties home for a listen on the home rigs tonight. I can't say that there is any change to my opinion of the SQ even with a better source and amplification. In fact they showed no obvious change at all, for better or worse. I compared them to my HD662Bs, a great similarity between them, the 661 sounding rather livelier with that mid range rasp/energy blast and the 662 being laid back in comparison and a little thinner. The best I have heard these 661s is definitely on the Fuze+, they seem to synergise. In keeping with the "rules" here's a mug shot, if it offends please change channel Jesus, old-gitness seems to be setting in, the mirror is a lying sod and the camera a brutal bastardo!

The HD661 arrived today and they are GORGEOUS! Straight out of the box they sound to me very good, the bass is strong and deep. I do not hear any problems with the top end being too energetic perhaps since I am 53 years old I have lost the ability to hear the higher frequencies.
I normally would put these in a burn-in program and report back at the 100 hour mark. Unfortunately a family member passed away at night (September 11 to September 12) and I am headed out tomorrow evening our of town for the funeral. I should have something around September 23rd. Sorry for the delay.

You know, a lot of it depends on what you're listening to. I felt that all was fine too until I listened to orchestral and then I felt a kind of skew in the tonal balance.
It's not a nasty headphone at all and the bass is very impressive. For me, it's the tonal balance that's not as accurate as I'd like and normally, I can adjust but I found it hard with the 661.
Spoken voice gives it away too.
Mind you, we're talking about a £30 headphone here as though it should match something far more expensive with greater tolerances than these probably have.

My two cents, I've lived with them for a good while now and honestly cannot fault them. As Chris says, paired up with the Fuze+ they are the best headphone in my armoury.... no other headphone comes close, not even the HD-25/1 which is usually great for portable duty... the HD-661 eats them for breakfast with the Fuze+, super sensitive and the synergy is just spot on.
With other amps / sources I find them to be quite a pleasant, energetic and engaging listen. The bass is up there with the HD-25/1 and they are the most open pair of "closed" headphones I have ever heard.
I enjoy them immensly and they will not end up sitting on a shelf like some of my "expensive" headphones because they are such an enjoyable listen.
I'll cut to the chase..... "Hi Mike, here are two pairs of headphones for you to listen to, which pair do you prefer?" Oh, I like those Superlux things, they sound great, how much are they?
"£30" Blimey, that's a lot to pay for a pair of headphones.... how much are those Sennheiser HD-600 things then, I may just take them.... "£239.99"
erm..... I think some of us are maybe getting a "tad" pedantic over small points. In my opinion (and my FINAL opinion) the HD-661 is a LOT of headphone for LITTLE money. Sure, it may not be "perfect" but NO headphone (whatever the price) "is" perfect.
What the HD-661 does do it does VERY well and if you partner it with an amp / MP3 player that has a certain degree of synergy you will be a very happy bunny.

I wholeheatedly agree with you Mike, for the money they are very good, my favourite phones with my IPod were the V-Jays, great sq from those, but somehow the 661's sound more genuine to me, it is hard to describe, more honest would probably be a better way to describe what I am hearing from the Superlux
when I consider that I did some head to head testing with my AKG K-240M's and K-340's, and that the 661's were not very far away from the AKG's in terms of sq, but for the fact that the K-340's were providing a bigger room for me to listen into, rather than the recording studio room type of sound I was getting from the 661's, I don't even think the studio room sound is a problem, in fact for female vocals it is a lovely listen to my ears !
all the same these are terrific cans for the money, I'm buying 3 or 4 for xmas, and will not mind anyone damaging them, as it seems other people at my place seem to break all my nice expensive headphones :-(
