I am the audio guy for my highschool, and tell you the truth the speakers we have suck bad. no lows, the highs are harsh, and they sound like there kinda hollow. i dont have alot of experiance with loudspeakers, what would be a good set of four large speakers around $1400 for the set? they need to be able to get pretty loud without distorting, and we have no space limitations, so big is the word.

Err, why 4? Norm is 5.1. We can assume for a hall? nope, we need two locations. two speakers each, each with its own amp and soundboard. i know it sounds like a mess but we make it work very well. one location is outside with a very bad acoustics, the other is inside of a gym with good acoustics

Err, why 4? Norm is 5.1. We can assume for a hall? nope, we need two locations. two speakers each, each with its own amp and soundboard. i know it sounds like a mess but we make it work very well. one location is outside with a very bad acoustics, the other is inside of a gym with good acoustics If the current speakers you are having is of some pro stuff that can handle high wattage, the sound can be better with a cheap pro equaliser and mixer like Behringer. Anyway, for "road show" type of system, you must have some kind of equalising, reverb and mixing function to tune the system to sound nice for all acoustic occasions and places. That's the function of the sound engineers for all concerts and gigs. I think Ian can give some suggestions on this as he is now studio base for all his musical works. Before, he was gig based. We cannot talk of home hifi type of equipment anymore. It's not appropriate as it's not designed for industrial reliability and abuses. Also, when you talk to those pro audio guys, they should also be able to give you suggestions for your picking to improve the audio for your application. They better be as they are pro audio resellers. Btw, when we say pro, this doesn't always equate to expensive. Behringer pro stuffs are not expensive, btw.

What are you connecting them to and where will they be situated? Are you using a standard 2 channel amp, what wattage output does it have, will the speakers be stood on the floor, on stands, wall mounted etc.?
