I just happened to be looking lovingly at the pads on the PX200 and thinking, I reckon they'd fit the portapro... A quick search later and ta daah , it looks like they do. Another one for the order list!

Have you tried that Chris? I wonder what it would sound like - it could give a 'lighter' sound.
I tried the Senn PX200 II again tonight and actually, you may like it Chris. I remember you liked the first version which I had problems with the fit on, but these seal easier and do in fact give good bass.
They're not as bad as I made out but pretty expensive.

Ian,
I hadn't when you posted that. From what I read it's a way of calming them a little if you've gone too far with opening up the grill.
Well, I just tried on the unmodified PPs and it was really muddy, distant and confused.
Definitely a useless exercise on its own.
Chris
PS I've never heard the PX200II, how much do they differ from the original?

Softer, slightly bigger cushions. A tad more bass when you get a fit. Quite a strong treble.
When I originally got them, they were for my little girl to play the piano. They fit kids really well.
So I listened and wasn't fussed and couldn't really get a good fit.
However, she's thoroughly broken them in for me on the piano and now they are a lot more rounded.
Problem is, for a portable, they're not that cheap and so if you don't like them it's not like the Portapro which is really low in price.
I seem to remember you liked the first version so you'd probably like this one. It's a definite improvement on the first.
I'd forgotten all about this one.

Thanks Ian and pc1. From your comments, reading that review linked and then around from there it looks like it may be worth taking a winger on either PX200II or the HD238 which are similarly priced if you look around. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I seem to remember the 238 wasn't as extended at the top. Ian Strange isn't it. All my reading around claims the opposite. I guess there is only one way to find out what my ears think Thanks for yours thoughts/experience Ian. Chris

I've bought the Cowon D2+ DAB, which has FM, DAB and DAB+ reception. I have this nice little thing only since a few hours. The first impression is very good, but only time will show if the first impression was accurate. Regarding the radio reception, I have already discovered a little secret: The quality of the radio reception is VERY depeding on the type of 'phones you are using. I've tried with the DT 770 Pro's first because I've wanted to try if the Cowon could drive the 250 Ohm's without problem. That was not the problem. But the coiled cable isn't a good antenna (to say the least). It sounds like shite. I've changed to the HD25-1/II's afterwards. They have 1.5m steel cable which seems to be an almost ideal antenna for the Cowon. Now the radio reception is extremely good, even if I'm moving. DAB/DAB+ works also very good and the quality of DAB radio in Switzerland seems to be quite good (compared to the FM radio stations). I'm very curious if the 1.5m steel cable of the HD25-1/II's also does the job for other people (and other players with radion reception). Please post if you have something to tell abou that. Just a suggestion: Give the FM tuner of the Clip+ a try with the HD25-1/II's and its steel cable. At least for the Cowon mentioned above, it was a full success. Claus suggested also that the steel rods of some Superluxes could act as good antennas.

My Koss Portapros have undergone surgery. After scouring around the net to find the most appropriate mod for gaining more HF I plumped for the one below, after first trying tights material stretched over in place of the plastic grill, which sounded awful! Anyway the pattern I cut did achieve a little more HF but it also more bass! The PPs really do not need more bass Overall a little better and total bass monsters. Most definitely still NOT for me bit my son loves them so has inherited them. I will refrain from any further comment on them after this post, just to go on record as I think they are really horrid

I'm sorry you didn't like them, Chris. One thing about Portapros is that they are a little bit variable. I have 4. (Don't ask) One of them is duller than the others and bass quantity is slightly different so quality control may not be that good.
The one I use most seems pretty well balanced even on mens' speech which normally shows bass humps easily.
In the past, I have bought one, kept it for a while and then chucked it because there was no treble to speak of.
Perhaps you had a 'dull' one. I've experienced it myself. I've also had one that went totally dull after a few years and had to chuck it out.

Not often we hear that about a porta pro.... I only have two pairs (anniversary and standard) and the standards pack way above their weight.... I haven't really listened to the Anniversary editions (keeping them in their box) but the ONE pair of PortaPro I listen to regularly have always been my favourite portable 'phones (open air).
Mike.

I'll have my Mitsubishi on a 'Sansa Clip Zip' soon!!! I hope it's as good as the Clip+. Biggest problem with Clip is reading the screen in the sun when it's strapped to your wrist. The Nano is better in that respect but I love being able to have expansion cards in it.

I have had the Clip Zip for a week now and it is actually a slight improvement on the Clip + as far as the screen goes. Easier to read and shows album art etc.
Same solid sound battery life is ok. Radio. Nice little unit. It has a bigger, more square screen and the controls are easier to press.
If I was starting again, I'd start with this one; I slightly prefer it to the Clip + although they both sound the same.

Sansa FuZe + for sale.... I just cannot get into this "music on the move" gig and feel isolated from the rest of the world (AND the beautiful sound of "nature).
This little puppy is in black and will also come with TWO 16GB Micro SD cards (a total of 32GB spare) so that's a whopping 40GB.
It's been here for a couple of months, it has been fully tested and I have listened to it on about 6 occasions (mostly to Radio 2) when I've found myself on the bus alone.
Make me an offer or a swap. (the swap doesn't have to be audio related... it can be anything)

I use mine in the house, Mike. Not just out mobile. For you, the biggest problem is getting the earphones in your ears.
Honestly, I could live with just the sansa with ie8's but get them custom fitted and they're absolutely unbelievable.
Once you have an iem custom fitted, they are a different beast. The don't hurt or exert big pressure on the inside of your ears. They also block out a lot of external sound so you can listen as loud or low as you like.
A visit to Boots in order to meet some big rock stars getting their ears done and through the post, your ear cushions arrive and you have the gateway to an amazing sound anywhere.
I often wander around the house with the radio lugged in or mp3's/wavs, whatever.
It's not so convenient with traditional headphones and as you have found, often uncomfortable with iem's.

I have been "seriously" listening to the Fuze+ the past few days (and let the guys in the bike shop have a listen too).... I have come to the conclusion that I prefer it best with the KOSS portapro's, they seem to have a wonderful synergy with the Fuze+. Lots of movement, bags of fizz and energy.
I listen to WAV files off the Micro SD card (16GB) and am astonished at the SQ for such little outlay. I absolutely hate the navigation system and getting stuff onto it is nowhere as streamlined as Ipod / itunes but, as far as sound quality goes... no complaints.
I see no point in buying the 16GB version.... you're better off with the cheaper 4GB version and adding Micro SD cards (16GB from as little as £8 a pop)... the ability to "add" extra storage is also a big "+" point... you are not restricted to "30GB" or whatever... you could have a terrabyte of storage all ready to slot in on Micro SD cards.
Yup, I really like the Fuze+

I rather like the Portapro as well. I also use the Senn PX200 if I'm not going to use the ie8's. For those, the custom fit makes all the difference. More comfortable and better bass/external noise rejection. I'm now on the Clip Zip which is also extremely good. I'm thinking of custom fitting the Klipsch X10. More toppy than the ie8. May go for it in the new year. Freedom from Itunes is really nice although podcasts aren't quite as easy. I tend to use the Touch for podcasts and the Zip for music. Next time you're on the bus Mike, it'll be easier to turn the back on her with noise cutting iem's in - playing something like YELLO. It'd do you a power of good!!!!

I was REALLY pissed off on the "school bus" the other night and had IPOD (lossless) into NECO into HD 25..... I cranked some Yello up to mind blowing levels, just to show the little bastards what secondhand "tizz" from a headphone SHOULD sound like I felt a bit of a pratt going at it full throttle (and the potential of deafness as per Euro crap) but then thought to myself.... "no no... you ARE the Pink!!" I've got a few "adults" in the bike shop into this and a couple of "kids" on the bus into it.... gotta be good news

Actually you are restricted to 32GB SDHC can address max 32GB (SD to 2GB) For 64GB to 2TB you will have to use SDXC which is not supported by the Fuze(+) I really like the Fuze as well.

Imagine a wallet full of music. Or going into shops and instead of buying a CD, you buy a chip. That could be on the way maybe?
With memory going down in price, it is rather convenient to stash up a load of music on them and just swap them in and out. Makes sense really.

Ian, My ( the wifes , cough, sputter...) is in a little wallet that has slots for two cards plus the card in the unit so I already have 48GB plus on board capacity. Wifey is now using her new mobly for music. As buying "files" of music in stores, I think it's possibly the only way physical music stores can continue long ( forseeable ) term and they should be jumping on that bandwagon ASAP, possibly encouraging the music big boys to offer HQ resolution options.
