I have been busy enjoying my X-Can / pre amp but have just noticed the top end seems to be less clear than the rest of the sound. Will capacitor bypassing sort this problem? - Which caps benefit from this technique or do I bypass all caps?
- How do I work out what values to use?
- What type of component do I use to bypass?
Also could somebody help me in the replacement of the red led on my XA200 power amps. I tried to replace one of them with the same 12v blue led used in my XCan and PSU, but it blew it straight away. I assumed the voltage would be 12v but when I measured it with my multimeter it showed 77v? Seems a weird sort of voltage. I don't have a clue how to work out what size resistor is needed to make the 12v led work. Any Help appreciated.

Crispy, I'm so sorry, have been very busy lately and totally missed this... I will reply in full later on.
Welcome to the forum by the way,
Mike.

Hi Mike, No problem and no rush. I know you have been a busy boy with censorship, woody woodpecker, helicopters and everything else - don't know how you find time to do it all? Great forum BTW. Any help appreciated and if you can supply the parts that would be good. Thanks Chris.

I have been busy enjoying my X-Can / pre amp but have just noticed the top end seems to be less clear than the rest of the sound. Original valves or old valves? The "tonality" can sometimes deaden a bit when a valve starts to go off. [quote-Will capacitor bypassing sort this problem?[/quote] Question is..... was the "problem" there before or has it just appeared? Has it come on gradually or suddenly... if suddenly then retrace you steps and double check all the work you have done. led.linear1.org/1led.wiz77V seems totally wrong though I know NOTHING about the AX200...... I don't think the "LED" is the problem... you'll have to find out WHY you're getting 77V across the LED.... once you have sorted that you can use one of these online calculators, they are quite handy: led.linear1.org/1led.wiz

Mike, the valves were bought new in April 2008 and have not had a great deal of use - a lot more now the XCAN is my pre amp. They are 6922/Harma deep cryo treated. They have always sounded good to me, but then I have only heard them against the original Jan Philips. Now I know better I must try your Russian 6N23P-EB valves if you can give me a price? Don't think it is the valves though, maybe me being a bit impatient and not giving the new evolution audio cables time to burn in properly, the Kimber cable I originally used was well burnt in. I know cables and components can take a long time to burn in thoroughly. It is mainly cymbals not sounding so clear and crisp and not ringing on if that make sense I will burn the amp in a bit longer then have another listen. Regards the XA200 amp, I will re-check the voltage supplied to the LED on BOTH amps and get back to you. Thanks for the link to the LED calculator - I am sure I will find it useful as I know next to nothing about electronics.
