You either love it or you hate it. Exactly! beauty is you have the easy option to try alternatives , of course it makes sense to just build it using whats supplied first , it'll probably sound fine for most as is anyway unless you dislike Marmite

Good work Lars My panda2 was also way off in DCoffset, but I did remember the lesson thaugth by Frans on the first one, så it was fairly easy to fix. The Panda 3 (Kung fu panda) still needs heatsinks and I found out that they are much more expensive than first believed, so I have more or less decided to move the transistors to the backside of the board and somehow mount two heatsinks from wornout PCs to them.. I just need a way to connect the heatsinks and transistors and somekind of foundation for the heatsinks..

Hi Mike, I've been reading this thread with interest. I'm still using a WNA MkII which you helped me modify some time ago: www.tdsf.co.uk/Audio/WNA.shtml and wondered how the PANDA compares to your WNA, I assume you still have one knocking about somewhere. Hello, I've just stumbled across this too and am in the same boat as you Xerxes although I might have a mk3? This panda looks very nice.

Nice rabbit.... yes, AKG K 701 really impress with the right equipment. Senn HD 600 is intimate, but never really lived up to the goosebumps the AKG K 701 can create.

Mike, It's arrived and it's LOUD. Drives the K701 with absolute ease. Many, many thanks. God I love the sound of this amp!!!! Excellent I hope it's not "too" immediate now Ian? No, not at all Mike. It still creeps in at the bottom end, smooth as a baby's bum. It's very loud at 12 '0 clock. It's better with the K701 at this gain for sure. Been listening to 'Touch' and it positively rumbles even on the AKG. Such an addictive sound. Thanks ever so much for all that work Mike. I've come back after another listen - you know, it doesn't miss a trick. Transients on cymbals are really precise and not 'toppy'. you can hear the initial tap on cymbals and then the 'note' that the cymbals give out. Trumpet on Touch has got that breathiness that you get close up - so it's mic'ed quite close and the distance of sounds back in the mix are really obvious. It's like a letter that's been opened properly and is pristine inside. Really gets to the core of tiny detail and also offers a brutal bass attack that doesn't overwhelm the tiny details above. Everything seems to be separated and easily discernible. If you play the same track again, you can follow individual lines easily so you can focus on different parts with each listen and even hear the length of the delays on reverb so clearly, imo on one track of Touch, it's slightly overdone since the delay clicks in a little late on some of the percussion work on one particular track. It really is the business. Also it isn't blatantly obvious when you listen. It's a good sound but extensive listening reveals tiny little nuances of rhythm and detail extremely well. It's the tiny little things that are the giveaway in attack and decay on notes and sounds. I think it also gets more fruity after being warmed up. I think I'll leave it on. It is a ridiculously good amp. It really is.

I wasn't too keen on "touch" when I first listened to it but now I can't stop listening to it.... it is so well recorded! Going back to "normal" recordings it's as if something has been hoovered out of the mix.... diluted..... Far from my favourite Yello album "content wise" (in fact, my least favourite Yello album of all time) but "quality" wise the best. Pocket Universe is another good one, especially "beyond mirrors"... it's just SO meaty sounding. The better the equipment the more you notice really SHITE recordings! There are quite a few recordings I used to enjoy, now I don't want to listen to them as they sound "compromised" through headphones..... I prefer listening to them through the speakers. Ian, you can keep that HD.... if I lose all that music I won't lose any sleep It's pretty MOR stuff and not my cup of tea AT ALL.... I'm already contemplating wiping it off one of my drives to make room for something a bit more "out there" I may be clocking on 50 but the day I start listening to that crap is the day I drive off a cliff with a blindfold on! You know what I'm talking about, no more words (as Deiter would say) I'm open to ALL types of music but the only thing that collection was missing was Val Doonican and Roger Whittaker! It "revs up" in parts (small parts) but is mostly elevator music IMO. ;D

I leave mine on 24/7. It takes the bugger a good couple of hours to stabilise so may as well leave it on all the time at optimum operating temperature. I don't like leaving valve amps switched on all the time but the Panda can be left switched on without worrying about electricity bills OR fires

Mike, you could use the drive. The storage space is always handy. I've got to parcel up the mini amps soon and I'll get them back to you so it's no trouble at all. As far as the content goes.... well there may be a few little classics but I was surprised. Oh, you could have kept the other bits and given them away as mini presents!!

As far as the content goes.... well there may be a few little classics but I was surprised. Oh, you could have kept the other bits and given them away as mini presents!! Ok, but I seriously won't be using the drive Ian.... I don't download tons of pRon or music so don't have much use for it to be honest.... I'm a dinosaur in that respect, still preferring to shove a CD in a tray. Sure, I do have a few hundred albums in my "own" itunes library but very rarely listen to them in the house (ie: through speakers)..... I'm more a "spray and go" type person online.... I do what has to be done and then I go onto the next thing. I don't keep screeds of crap on my system, as soon as I have read an e-mail I delete it, as soon as I have uploaded a photo I delete it from the HD... it's not a "security" thing, I just don't see the point of having my hard drive filled with crap. Do I "really" need to refer to an e-mail I sent someone 7 years ago? Do I really a hard drive jam packed with pictures of amps? Do I really need "external" drives full of middle of the road music?.... noooo! I am old school in that respect and used to the command "format C:" It will all go pear shaped (only a matter of when) and it's a lot easier to store photos etc. on the likes of photobucket.... if photobucket go out of business then you've lost all your photos.... so what, no big deal.... everything in life has an expiry date, including us. This obsession with "data" is ridiculous. Unless you are a major bank or a global corporation then I see no need for storing all this "data" on a computer... the more you store the more likely it is that your system will BSOD (blue screen of death)..... Hell man, getting back to the point, PLEASE keep the drive as I will never have a use for it..... You know, I'm starting to wonder JUST how we managed to live and be HAPPY before the advent of all this "data backup" crap..... back in the day I was doing really strange things like climbing trees, balling girls, getting into fights, harvesting conkers, letting off fireworks, smoking fags, stealing apples, buying pRon mags, riding motorbikes, going to discos, balling more chicks, looking at myself in the mirror (and LOVIN' it), going to rock concerts, smokin' strange herbal substances.... the list is endless..... Now what am I doing? Discussing backing up "data".... eh? what fekkin' "data"? At what stage did I go from being a wild child to a friggin' "typist" inputting my "data" into a computer for all to see? Big Brother doesn't have to "watch".... Big Brother has managed to get everyone to "log" their every move whether it be through personal "data" you input via a keyboard or carrying a mobile phone about with you..... "they" know WHO and WHERE you are (at any given time) and the best part is..... we are providing this "information" voluntarily by buying into the "i" generation..... that "i" (by the way) stands for "information" We are being processed like never before. The net "seems" great at the moment (why do you think it's called the "net" by the way? To catch people ) but very soon all those cheap "deals" you came here for will become expensive, the "wild west" feel will very soon become a 1939 Hitler style regime..... Just like WW1, the powers that be are leading us to slaughter. I'm off to climb a tree whilst it's still "legal" to do so

BTW...... Panda three has been put on hold, I'm waiting for the Galaxy enclosure from audiokit.it..... it's not fair comparing it to Panda one in an "undressed" state..... I wan't both of them to be dressed in aluminium first Panda four is under way and it's mental.... more details to follow I've decided NOT to offer any more kits for sale, I will be building the remainder up myself (18 of the buggers) and will sell them as "completed" amps (as and when).... Mike.

Panda is lashed up and running in , trimmers set for 1v5 What to do with left over fets , I decided to make some 3-4mA CRD's and try replacing the zeners bias resistors.

Leo The regulated voltage is likely to be a little lower due to 4.6mA (approx.) through the 18V Zeners normally.(18-0-18 toroidal) I can see where you are coming from, though. Alex
