Been enjoying the AUNE, and now I am itching to try building a DIY PSU for it. Anyone know of a good DIY kit and transformer (and whatever else is needed) from a US souuce that would match well with the AUNE? Hi Ray, not sure of a US source but the PSU kit I used came from Maplin www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=3488 (I know you can buy these in the USA just do a search for "Velleman K18231A" you want to set it's output voltage to 20 volts. A suitable transformer would be a 115V primary with a 24V secondary (20 VA will be fine) you can go the toroidal route or if you want to build into a relatively small enclosure go for a chassis mount type, something like this search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=595-1057-ND That digikey site is awful to navigate BTW!

You may also wish to consider the σ11 PSU from AMB labs (Ti Kan). Mind you it is not a cheap psu to build, may very well end up spending more than the Aune itself depending of the parts you will choose for the case, power entry module, trafo, connectors (amphenol at the back of the unit is really an overkill ;D)...

Well I am not sure, maybe a more experienced user would like to comment on this. I am a DIYer, not very experienced and really have never had the opportunity to test the sound from a workbench PSU As far as XCANs, my V1 required 12 Volts AC I am not sure if they changed that in V2 (do they require DC Volts?)

I've placed an order for the BB single to dual mono adaptor so just need the dual AD744s.
Can someone please provide a link to the correct AD744 model part number that I need for the Aune?
Thanks.

AUNE yes, X-Can V2 no (requires 12 V AC). No, V2 still require AC. If you have this adapter: You need DIP version of AD744 (two of them). If your adapter is this one: You need SOIC version of AD744 (again - two of them).

Thanks for the info, that place charges £12 shipping for just 2x AD744!

Oh, if you are UK/Europe based you can search through Maplin, Rapid or something else from UK/Europe.

I had plenty (almost 100) AD-744 but stock has dwindled to ZERO over the past few months.... you could try this guy and "make an offer"..... I'm sure he would accept a bit less The adaptor you need is a single to dual Browndog which is available from Tangent for $4.00 tangentsoft.net/shop/ he lists it as "SO-8 op-amp adapter". I will have a good look around tomorrow, I'm sure I have some more 744's kicking about the place somewhere.... if I find them I'll let you know (they will be £5 per pair) Mike.

By the way..... if you are UK based, RS components keep them in stock part number: 522-9420 uk.rs-online.com/web/home.html You can be sure these are the genuine thing, you never know when you're buying from ebay / Hong Kong...... If I can't find any more in my opamp armoury I'd be happy to order them from RS for you..... I am an account holder and postage is free of charge.

I also use the RCA output of the Aune connected to a modified Trends TA-10.1 Class D amp, any advice on what opamps I should use for the RCA out section of the DAC? I have been experimenting with a few and my favourite, so far, is the OPA2107..... more on this in a few days...... IMO OPA2107 has always been very close to the signature of the OPA627 but in a dual package.... again, more of this to follow when I have time. PS: I have OPA2107 in stock

Interesting, never heard of the OPA2107 before, would they require another single to dual opamp adaptor for optimum performance?

No need for an adaptor as the OPA2107 is a dual opamp, you only need one. I've just got some in myself to try, Mike's beaten me to it.
Mike, have you tried the opa2111 yet?
Cheers
Matt
Edit: Sorry Mike, didn't see your reply over the page.

Hi there.
I'm new to DIY, so it would be nice to have a post that would "babysit" me through modding the Aune amp / DAC. I suppose that the OP-amps fit into slots ... or ...?
Also a suggestion as to a quality psu that needs no more than unpacking and plugging in would be nice. The one linked to in an earlier post by Pink Flyd is ... massive, and the DIY-kits are probably too complicated for me ...
The only time I ever soldered anything was when I modded a PSU (exchanged the stock fan with an ADDA fan) for a Shuttle XPC (SN95G5v2) and as far as I know the PSU is still purring away some 4 years later. That was sheer luck.

Thanks fidelity.
Just to make absolutely sure: the 2 opamps in the Aune are in DIP8 adapters - so easily replaceable = No soldering, right?
I would like to use the Aune with a Squeezebox Duet (or Touch when they are finally available) , for which I will also need a better Squeezebox PSU by the way.

Yes make sure the PSU is a regulated one fitted with a 2.1mm connector, I can't read danish but they both look fine for the job.
Looking forward to hearing any opinions on the OPA2107/OPA2111 in the Aune before I order one of them.

First post here - just ordered one of these babies from coolfungadget, as my first DAC/amp to power my Beyer DT931's. Pretty hyped about it too! I need to replace the cable on the cans since the girlfriend must have busted the right channel in a hype of cleaning frenzy (and the original cable sucks), and thinking about doing the capacitor / resistor mod that was on the Meier Audio site.
Does anyone have any experience running the 931's or similar phones with this amp? Also, being a total noob, but would anyone mind explaining to me what the difference is between the op-amp (2134) and the 'headphone amp' (OPA2604 with a couple of TI chips)?
Also #2, any idea if all of the AUNE amps have sockets for the op-amps, or should I have requested this as a feature specifically?
cheers.... Nikola

I requested both opamps be socketed on my unit although they may already come socketed by default now. No expert here, the OPA2134 can alter the sound of both the headphone and RCA out section, unlike the headphone opamp, correct me if I'm wrong
