Folks, dumb first question from a newbie; Is the AUNE analogue out gain on the back panel adjusted by the volume pot or is it fixed? Was wondering if I can use the AUNE as a preamp for direct connection to a power amp. I'm guessing the answer is probably not. Hopefully there's someone here who can tell me definitively...

The analog out at the back is a fixed line out. And it only works from the AUNE's built in DAC.
This isn't what you asked, but is interesting: if the AUNE is amplifying an analog in signal for the headphone output, the line out at the back can still output the decoded signal from the DAC at the same time. So for example I can hook up my CD player to the AUNE's analog line in. And also connect my computer using the USB in. Flip the switches in front to USB & A, and I'll hear the CD player over the headphones and the computer over the line out (let's say connected to a pair of bookshelf speakers, or an integrated amp). There probably aren't many situations when this would be needed though.

Hi Pinkie et al, I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these babies but I have a few questions please? 1. There are various versions e.g MK2, MK2 SE. Which would you recommend and why? 2. On their website they do have this one: www.hllyaudio.com/dac/aune-dac/aune-mini-usb-dac-limited-version-dac-power.html3. What further modifications have you settled upon? 4. You think these will be okay with Grados? Thanks so much.

Hi, I have one: I changed the volume knob just because I'm vain and wanted it to match other amps that I have. I use it for digital files via USB and find it a really nice match with the K701. (Which has a tendency like Grados to be fairly top end weighted) I imagine that it would be very good with Grados. Mine's unmodded and it's absolutely fine. I know that Mike suggests changing the op amp. It's one of the amps that I really don't regret buying.

Hello rabbit, which particular model did you buy in the end? I would like the buy the best spec'd one since they aren't so expensive.

hummm, what media player do u use? my guess is u need to change the output from within the media players options. I use two different one's atm, foobar2000 www.foobar2000.org/AIMP2 www.aimp2.us/for AIMP2 its options>playing>sound output device> open up the drop down and chose [in my case] Speakers (USB Audio DAC). foobar is quite similar in its option tree navigation. if windows does not see it, is it plugged into the pc? or a usb hub? may need to leave it unplugged, reboot THEN plug it into pc, there should be no issue after that, if its a win7 and recognize the usb. oh and DO power on the AUNE after u connect usb to pc, it wont be seen if its off. lastly are you sound issues only with having no sound when u use the aune? or do you have sound troubles otherwise? to find if windows does indeed see the usb dac it will be listed in the device manager under >Sound Video and Game controllers. your onboard audio will be there [or sound card should u have one] and below than it would like the AUNE as USB audio DAC u can navigate there easy with this path. clk Start>Right Clk Computer>Properties, now in the window that opens on left will say control panel home and directly below will be Device Manager. hope this helps Peace

Good Morning All,
I happened across this due to the link on eBay. I'm grateful to all posters for a very informative thread on the Aune,
I'm wondering if I might enquire as the results in conjunction with Sennheiser HD650 headphones. I quite like the headphones but I don't believe I'm hearing the potential sound quality due to lack of power. I had been looking att he Little Dot series but the Aune looks like a great deal as a first headphone amp.
Kindest Regards, Pete

Hi all
I have this amp (mainly due to the recommendation of this forum) and am very pleased with it. I want to upgrade my headphones and am thinking of getting the Beyer DT770 Pros. Would they work well with the Aune? Does it matter which ohm version I get?
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am using Aune DAC (slightly upgraded) with DT 770 pro 80 ohm. All is great. Also I was using it with AKG K702 (63ohm), but had to swap to the DT770

My Aune DAC arrived on Monday, got an 18 Volt DC Power Supply 18v Regulated from fullspeedit on ebay (far East - Hull:) - the psu doesn't make any difference just don't have to balance the adapter in the socket , using with Grado SR60i's Very impressive

Hi Mook, yes that is exactly the one I've got, you need the adapter set DC Power Supply Adaptor Set of 8 for 5.5mm x 2.1mm Plug Which fullspeedit also sells - just hold the barrels up to each other to get the right one (blue colour on the set I have). I've only run the Aune on my pc so far, and found no difference in sound with the PSU but replacement fits the socket and doesn't run hot!

Between the USB and Coax inputs on the AUNE, will they yield the same sound quality when connected to a computer?
In case they are the same, would it make a difference if I upgraded the USB hub cable to one with gold connectors?
I ordered my amp last week and I'd like to have everything else I need ready by the time it arrives.
Thanks!

If the Coax SPDIF is from the motherboard, and not from a decent soundcard's SPDIF, there may not be much to choose between them. Although the choice of USB cable should not in theory make any difference, quite a few people with much higher performance DACs have reported improvements when using much higher quality cables. I think it may be wasted on this particular entry level DAC though. SandyK

As Alex says, just stick with the USB cable, it's free with the amp and you really won't get much better sound with coax.
That guy from Hull selling the PSU's.... are you guys sure they are linear regulated?

Question:
It does 16/48 thru USB, and 24/96 thru spdif... if one has normal (ripped) material from CD... both are ok, although the spdif (thru sound card) will do marginaly better, due to no CPU usage and better sheilding.
On high resolution material the spdif will be the definite winner...
Have i got it wrong?

Actually some of the newer DACs can do 24/96 via USB.
