The Denons I have were heavily modded by replacing the cable, the wood cups with larger volume ones made out of bubinga, the earpads are thicker with an angle, finally mods to the support of the driver. If you search for MarkL mods you will get an idea. The sound of the modded Denon is nothing like the stock unit. IMO it sounded better than the Sony R10. www.lawtonaudio.com/Yeah, I know about the MarkL mod, read pages and pages about it. Maybe one day I'll consider the LA7000, but a big hassle is I'm in Europe. But better then R10, that's a very big statement. R10 is a real classic one and considered by many to be the best headphone ever made. I guess it's all about what's better to one's own hearing, personal preferences. Many would say a HD800 is better then a D7000, but I'd definitely choose the Denon out of those two. One's detail en transparence, is anothers harshness en unforgivingness, one's warmth is anothers veil, muddyness or whatever.
